Don't Fear The Reaper aka Where's the Death Penalty?

It's likely a bit late at this point, as any change in the game besides adding more stuff is going to result in another childish outcry of "RAGE THINGS CHANGED IM QUITTING/SUEING!", but is anyone else severely disappointed that there is still no death penalty whatsoever? And I'm not lobbying for something ridiculous like losing your ship or anything, but shouldn't there be SOMETHING to make it actually worth not getting blown up every six seconds? As it is, the entire game feels cheapened because everything can be solved by simply throwing yourself at an objective as fast as possible, and unloading on it, getting blown up, and repeating, as death is absolutely meaningless. I know its not popular because its more "casual" to have to not worry about getting killed, but the result is there is no risk to the gameplay, and combat feels pathetic because you can only win /=.

There is a bit of one, every time you die you lose crew which in turn affects your ship's systems.

MMOs seem to be going away from the death penalty.

Are you sure that's from death? Because generally you lose crew from explosions during battle, and just about every time I've respawned, I'm no longer in battle, so my crew regenerates to full almost immidiately. If its a death penalty, it may as well not even be there as it has no effect given it clears in roughly 5 seconds.

Certain MMOs are going away from the death penalty. Granted, its gotten much less severe over time in general (no more level loss/exp loss etc) but there has always been something to make people "fear the reaper" as it were and actually practice some form of self preservation. Otherwise, you end up with completely stupid battle tactics as everyone in the game suddenly becomes the USS Kamikaze.

Regardless if there is no death penalty, I still do not "throw myself" into battle as you said, I still try to think things through, as I still get disappointed when I explode. Also when I am about to die, I pop my emergency power to shields, and evasive maneuvers, to bone out of battle quickly (getting out of range to a point where the NPC's target someone else) just to stay alive.

Also, in PvP, death means one step closer to losing the battle for your side, so there is still a penalty there.

I fly a Escort, and die quite easily under focus fire, so my play is very taxing at times.

Easiest pentalty could just be peer group cost.

They could add titles to your name when in space that corrolate to the amount of missions you complete and how often you have to respawn in those missions.

Some ranks could be from no loses, to a rank for someone that falls down when they run into a Vulcan scrub brush.

Untouchable
Only One
Iron Man
Heroic
Valiant Effort
Red Shirt
Cannon Fodder

Or some other choice of names that float around with a person.

Although there would have to be a review process since when you add a reward, if there are something like bugs, people would want to get a respawn total adjusted. So it would add some customer support time also.

I believe so, only really noticed the lack of crew after having my ship blow up.

Is it so hard for people to have self-control? "I won't die because I don't want to die"? Do you need your mother to stand behind you everywhere you go, ready to scold you for bad manners?

Welcome to the internet and MMOs. Personally, I don't do it because I see it as a personal failure if I let my ship expload, not to mention the uncomfortable immersion break of "everyone just died....good thing it didn't happen!" But as soon as "just unload and die over and over" becomes the easiest solution to a mission/problem, most players see no point in doing anything else because its the most "efficient" way of doing it.
