Ship Combat General Info and Suggestions

I've been playing since release and I have some general questions/concerns.

1. Ship maneuverability, do the higher level ships move faster and turn tighter? Because I have the first federation ship and the turning is just ridiculously obtuse. A 360degree turn takes forever. Is there a way to bank or climb as well that I just don't see?

2. Match speed and heading? Is there a way to do this automatically?

3. Is there a way to select my target's target (keyboard shortcut)?

That's all for now, keep up the good work!

turning rate depends on several factors:
- Type of ship: Escorts turn fast, Science turn medium, Cruisers turn slow
- Aux. power: aux power affects the turning rate (among other things)
- Engine: Some engines are better at turning than others

Awesome - I was actually scouring the forums for that info. How about question 2. and 3.?

As the previous poster said, aux power helps and the type of engine. Combat impulse turns better at low speeds, hyper impulse turn better at high speeds. Normal impulse engines seem to be pretty balanced.

There is no option to match speed or heading that I'm ware of.

There is no key to select the target's target, but when using a power, it will select the proper target. For example, when targeting a friendly, and you hit fire weapons, they will shoot at your friends target. Also, when targeting an enemy and you hit engineering team, or science team, it will target the enemies target. So that helps a lot.

Yeah, I'm surprised there is no "follow" or "orbit" options in space.

You can follow a friendly... But that is about it... I probably would not use it much, turning to give the other cheek, I mean, shield has its uses. Or to better position to hit a weaker shield. It works in EVE because ships have no facings. They are just as strong regardless of where you hit them. That game is more about transversal speeds and distances. This one is more positioning than anything else.

I understand this. Which is half the fun. I love that "Captain! Shields are down!" indicator. I just wish you could target parts of the ship once the shields drop, now that would be slick!

I would target their engines or warp core immediately!
