Help me understand KDF Ship Chart

I've been looking at Suricata's ship chart for KDF, trying to do some research and establish a rough game-plan before I make a KDF character. I'm having trouble understanding some of the things on the chart and was hoping someone could help me sort it out.

Surcata's Ship Chart

With regards to the Klingon Vessels, I have a few questions:

1) What do the "neutral" bridge officers mean? Does that mean any type of officer can fill that slot?
2) Are all of the ships in T1-4 classified as escorts? Or what all kinds of ships do the Klingons have available to them?
3) The big T5 battlecruiser confuses me. It has less weapon slots and less bridge officer slots than the other T5 ships. What's the purpose of the huge ship?
4) Do only the Bird of Prey ships have cloaking, or do some of the other ships have cloaking as well?
5) Can someone tell me about the 3 bottom ships? K'tinga, Vor'cha, and Negh'var. Are these cruisers? Or what are they?

Yes

All raptors, however the birds of prey are escorts in essence too.

Never made it that far.

4) Do only the Bird of Prey ships have cloaking, or do some of the other ships have cloaking as well?

All except the carrier have cloaking, and birds of prey from t2+ have cloaking in combat.

5) Can someone tell me about the 3 bottom ships? K'tinga, Vor'cha, and Negh'var. Are these cruisers? Or what are they?

Cruisers!

re: 3) The Neg'vhar is the T5 cruiser, the Vo'Qov class is a carrier type ship that can summon smaller ships to help it. It is more of a science+summon ship than a cruiser.

Re 1) Yes

Re 2) Only the Raptor is technically an escort (although, even more technically, it is its own ship classification). The Bird of Prey is a swiss army knife, although escort -ish in nature.

Re 3) The ship I believe you are reffering to is the VoQuv- it is a behemoth with balanced BO abilities to support a fleet, and can launch fighters, support ships, or even another Bird of Prey.

Re 4) They all have cloaking except the Carrier. Birds of Prey are the only ships that can cloak in combat though.

Re 5) Those are the KDF counterpart to Federation Cruisers: Battlecruisers. They are a lot more maneuverable than cruisers and can equip cannons (cruisers cannot), but have slightly less hull points than cruisers. (FYI, they also kick serious arse)

Cool. Thanks for the replies guys. Got a couple other questions about KDF.

1) Are most players on KDF playing Tactical Captains?
2) How is Engineering for PVP? I was thinking of making a KDF engineer but I'm not sure its the best choice.

2) Engineering is great for PvP in space. My Gorn is an Engineer.

In my experience 1 is true, but what I see of pvp, it's engineers and scientists that allow them to win matches.

I think there are more scientists and engineers put together than tactical officers, but tacs seem to be the most prevalent. Engineer is, imho, the strongest class for pvp at the moment.

Just another interesting tip. While you can get a higher sci skill from a T5 Bird of Prey, you can fit more science consoles in a Vo'Quv. This means the science skills it has will be stronger than the BoP's, as long as you use consoles and skills that benefit from them. I also believe it receives science ship skills (4 target subsystem beam abilities). I've never flown a Vo'Quv myself, but I'm skilling for it. Hope it's something decent. The 2 aft 4 fore surprises the crap out of me. It is the slowest ship in the game and, by extension, the least able to benefit from a fore heavy setup.
