Requesting Ha'apax build
So basically, I have this Ha'apax on an engineering character which is doing nothing more but gathering dust. I recently decided to pull that character out of drydock, but it seemed that I still had Mk IX equipment from leveling equipped.
So, I'd like to have a somewhat effective build for that ship.
Just some simple things I'd like you to take into account
- Right now, this is a simple ground alt I do not intend to grind a lot for. So basically, please no reputation and fleet gear.
- I am willing to replay each episode up to 8 times if needed for some special piece of gear.
- I'd like to keep the price of the build at a maximum of 2 million. Like I said, this is a simple alt I don't really care that much about.
- Tanking is an important feature for any build I'm gonna fly with this ship. I'd like to take all the damage a Cube can throw at me when my team kills it.
I'm not expecting the kind of build to solo STF's with. I'm just hoping for something that won't ashame me when flying around. I'm hoping for around 4k DPS. More is always welcome.

The KISS (Keep It Simple and Stupid) approach I'd take would be to put on the space set from "A Step Between Stars" and a 6 Caustic Plasma Beam Arrays from "Last Stand".
Not sure what you'd want for torpeodes. The Biomolecular ones from "Mind Game" are nice but I think they're currently not buffed by any tactical console aside from the generic torpedo ones.
Hargh'Pengs are also an option but only if you don't want to use torpedo buffs.
Which haapax? (advanced? mirror or fleet? )
Do you have the split console (become an escort)?
With no console and the standard (advanced) haapax, you are eng heavy and tac light. I suggest 1 tac team, 2 FAW and have fun being immortal with the eng skills. Haz emmit for the sci, not sure what is best for secondary skill.
You could load up AP from sphere of influence. One less run as you can use the special 360 beam with that. I would not fool with a torp at all --- you lack tac officer seats to make much use of it. So I am saying 7 AP beam arrays & the special beam.
Generic equipment rounds it out.... ap tac consoles, neut armors (2 or 3), science you could use +shieldcap (crafted or from lowbie mission if still available?). If you have any of the consoles like valdore ..? .. that would go in an eng slot I guess? Or weapon power engineer consoles maybe.
basically do as much damage as you can and be indestructible.
You can also run dyson rep for free items. Some are better than standard exchange drop type, most are not.
My suggestion for the others.. jem H engine perhaps, weapon power again? Any high cap shield, blue XII covarient or something... most of the free purples are low cap and poorish. Deflectior, just get an exchange purple square one with all + shield and hull hit points.
I have the advance one, what do you want to know? I'll help you. No secret. There a few things you need to do to get some good things for it. But most are in the missions.
Don't have to play the missions 8 times you just need to be at the right level and know which mission to play. I am vice admiral so the higher the level weapons, devices and console items will help you have a battle star ship. I wish the ship had more resource power than my Fed ship does. Again the limits per ship. Can't add everything to the ship though would be nice. So I have to forgo a lot of things. Shields over 52,000 instead of the 40,000. To keep it at that level to make the fore 10,000, sides 10,000, rear 10,000 then the rest at least 30 to 40%.
To answer some questions:
- I have the free level 40 version
- Only ZEN consoles I have access to on that character are the level 10 Fed Escort and Sci Vessel console
- I do favor a torpedo in all my builds so far, if I learned anything, then it is that a well-timed torpedo can rip enemies apart
- Antiproton might seem reasonable on first sight, but I have looked into this on a KDF char. And boy, they are expensive. Probably since they don't drop as loot. So AP is gonna fall short I'm afraid.
The Step set is already testing on my Gal-X, and this set is something I don't have to complain about. So I might just go for it. Hargh'pen might be a nice torpedo indeed, been to long since I used that anyway. Any mission the Rommies need to play for it, or is that one stalking doff assignments in Eta Eridani?

As for a torp, if you like one use one, but you don't have room for a torp tactical skill so maybe harpheng or breen cluster for a big boomer that can't use spread anyway? Or whatever else. If you use them, thats 1-2 less runs for AP beam arrays anyway... so it could work out nice.
The harphengh mission is available to all 3 factions somewhere. I forget the name of it. And you can also DO earn it on any faction but that is rare and I think you gotta crit it (?).
If you like this ship, the haakona might be worth a look. Split into the escort, it can be amazing, so you can dps when tanking is inappropriate and tank when needed. The universal officer is very helpful. Upgrades to a fleet ship for 1 module.
The ship is basically a level 40 sovereign.

Just ideas. Mix, match, change, or don't use :) Hope it helps. I recommend the Haakona. It's much better and the console does change the ship a lot. You also get a universal Lt Com station which adds a lot of diversity to possible builds. In fact, my rom science toon almost always uses a sci build haakona and does really well.
One thing about the hargh'peng and aggro. DoTs seem to give a lot of aggro in STO. I use the hargh'peng on my fed engineer aggro tank. With it, I seem to get agro from almost anyone. Same with Plasma DoTs. Just something to think about :)
There's two ways to get free Plasma weapons. One is the Caustic Plasma weapons from the Last Stand mission. They are bound to character. The other is from the fed mission, Project Nightingale. These ones are standard [Acc]x2 beam arrays that are not bound so you can farm them on a fed toon and mail them to your rom.
For antiproton, do the mission, sphere of influence. They are free and have a [Acc]x2 mod. you can also get the 360 AP beam and the Obelisk Core for more AP weapon damage.
I assume your a fedulan?
Doofs are your choice but there are lts available that can help and are reasonably cheep.
singularity core is also up to you there are afew that are mission rewards.
Everything else is free or nearly so.
I'm not sure if you have any good DOFFS for space duty yet, so I'll just assume you don't have them yet and provide some options for you.
Since technicians are rather expensive, and systems engineers that reduce DEM power use are too, I'll focus on stuff that's easier to obtain.
Here is your wish list for DOFFs to have available for active duty space use:
2x purple conn officers that reduce tactical team
3x Damage Control Engineers
1x warp core engineer that boosts power upon use of EPTx abilities.
Since you are an engineer captain, use nadion inversion and EPS transfer 3 to keep power levels up and reduce the drain from DEM.
This buld only requires 2 conn officers to reduce tactical team, which shouldn't be too expensive on the exchange to purchase. This fist setup has abilities that can be trained at New Romulus.

If you can train EPTS3, or can find a friend/ fleetmate to do that for you, try this one instead:
