Fed Cloak

Noob question, but I've searched on the forums and can't find anything on this, hoping Klingons being used to them might have more info :)
I have a Klingon BO who gives me a cloak ability - haven't tried it in anything but PvE, but seems to work as advertised (sneaking about the briar patch mission for instance).
However, my ship (at least to me) doesnt actually go totally invis - just sort of "darker" and sheilds drop - the npc's do seem to stop see-ing me - but, any idea how this looks to other players ?
I'd assume it isn't as effective as Klingon tech and may just make me a sitting duck if ever used in pvp, but any info gratefully received.

Huh. What's the name of the ability, if you don't mind me asking? Also, what officer type provides it?

Its more than likely Mask Energy Signal (I belive thats its name). I also think its a Science ability... Could be wrong however.

It is abreviated to MES and a lot of people whine about it (of course they do).

At work at the minute so can't check - but MES sounds about right - any info/thoughts on how this operates in PvP?
I like being stealthy if at all possible and poking about on my own (prob a good way to get blasted , but what the heck :o ) - how would I appear to a Klingon opponent - visible to the naked eye if they are keeping a look out , but of the sensors ? or ?

MES is a science BO ability you can get (both on Fed and Klingon).

It's actually better than Klingon cloak. Your shields will still recharge while MES is on.

However, it's not a battle cloak so it's only good for sneaking up and starting a fight. It won't be available again until your Red Alert is gone (after exiting combat).

People can detect you while using MES, the higher their Auxiliary power setting. Science characters seem to get a bonus. However, it seems to be ineffective unless the MES'd guy is within 4 or 5 km - usually even less. This is much like detecting cloaked vessels.

Thanks Nef - sounds just up my street - something that can get me into a lot of trouble :p
Maybe i'll catch me a sleepy Klingon with it.

MES isnīt better than cloak any more. After launch it had only about 2k perception stealth at level 1. That about the half the klingons have. And i heard it disables the shield too now but im not sure.

MES is easier to detekt than cloak. But Klingons do not have any special detection skills.

it defn dropped my sheilds in PvE - I'm pumping skill points into it so if you hear a bang and I don't post anymore ... you can assume the Kllingons saw me coming :p

in pvp they can see you from a stupidly long distance away (upwards of 19km). and your shield power goes to ZERO while its up.

I'll probably still try it - I have this amusing vision of me "sneaking" up on a bunch of Klingons and them all sitting holding fire while they wonder wtf I'm doing - "Uh Hi.... I'm a Ferengi trader .. yes thats it..."
