Shouldn't it be "I am borg"

We all know the introduction of the Borg.
"We are the Borg. Resistance is futile. Your culture will adapt to service ours. We will add your biological and technological distinctiveness to our own."

I am not a "we" yet my body is made up of ~ten trillion individual cells. Despite this, I consider myself a single individual. I consider myself an individual because I have my own consciousness.

The Borg with their shared consciousness should consider itself a single entity.

Why is it not "I am Borg...."
I am unique in my interpretation of the Borg?

It's the royal "We." Obviously.

The Borg are a single entity with a multitude of moving parts, yes, but they're a very self-absorbed single entity with a multitude of moving parts. So it only makes sense to use the royal "We."

It is obvious that the topic creator is not a Star Trek fan.
