Raptor vs Bird Of Prey
 
I am about to turn LC and I have been doing some research into the ship types. From what I can see I have found very little advantage in choosing the raptor over bird of prey. Am I missing something? Same weapon slots but, Bird of Prey have battle cloak, universal BO, faster speed and turn radius. Less crew but is that really going to matter in an offensive ship?

The difference is the BoP has battle cloak, bit less hull and is lacking a boff slot. If you can't find a use for the extra tac officer, then don't get the raptor.

Biggest difference is that 5 Raptor blows


t4 raptor is much better then t4 BOP tho

The bird of prey is better.

A team with 5 BOPs will probably lose to one with 3 BOPs and 2 Raptors, though. It always seemed like raptors were much tougher than BOPs when I was pvping as a fed. I haven't tried one on my klingon guy yet.

Everyone seems to gloss over the fact that the raptor gets one more tactical console slot which you can put another 30% disruptor damage or whatever you want in (although it's more like 10% if you're stacking 4 of the same consoles). In addition you get one more rear slot, which I fill with an additional turret which lends me an extra 800 or so dps with rapid fire going.

So regardless of the BO's the raptor is simply capable of more maximum dps, but you trade off adaptability, turn rate and battle cloak for it.

the biggest reason I believe in the BOP is that the turn advantage of the BOP over the Raptor is greater than the hull advantage. The hull buys you a second when you are being focused by a fedball and your shields are gone. However, if I can easily slide into any ships stern and pump them full of distruptor cannons and they can do nothing to stop it that is worth alot. Even fed escorts are at best 17 in turning a BOP is 21.

ive found it harder to kill raptors then BoPs so that is what i went with

It depends, I think, if youre a Tac officer or not. If you are and you plan on doing big alpha strikes, then the extra tac officer you get with the Raprotr is good. You can have high yield, rapid fire and tac team. Plus your Alpha strike. That will give you more DPS with your first strike. Not having battle cloak can be a good thing also. Since some people use it at the wrong time and end up takeing a lot more damage. At T2 it dosent make much of a difference.

Good Morning All,
Well, I played both the Raptor and Bird of Prey. At this tier they have the same weapons, and consoles. I found that I prefer the Bird of Prey over the raptor because of the maneuverability. I was able to consistently put out roughly 80,000 damage per KvK space house battle, which is good for me.

I also purchased the raptor and tried it as well, but was only able to average around 30,000 damage. Perhaps I was not playing it right, but I think I like how agile the Bird of Prey is.

I went BoP all the way to T5, still using it actually. Universal BO slots make it far better than the Raptor imo.

Some things though;The BoP dies fast if you get focused by the fed ball. You need to have your ramming speed/evasive maneuvers/Engine batteries ready to get out, or either fight around structures so you can hide and recloak.

It's important to realize what angles you can attack from. With a proper setup you can take on any tactical from any angle. Science ships I tend to use a Jam sensors on, followed by Attack Pattern Omega to get rid of their debuffs. Keeping science team ready as well helps. I usually hit them from the side. On Cruisers it depends on the target's setup. IF the BOs are on cooldown, you should be able to get them down in 3-5 seconds. If not you might need to use some of your own BO skills. It's very easy to just match their speed and stay about 2-3km behind them. It stops them from going all broadside on you.

You should be able to take 2 on 1 as well, assuming you have your BO skills up and you have stuff like Jam Sensors. If you can't kill both you should at least be able to kill one and then get out and recloak.
