It is not strange at all. It is all part of a branding process.

It is part of the cookie cutter generic MMO system that Cryptic's business plan is built around silly rabbit! One MMO every two years last I heard... :D

This doesn’t actually surprise me that much, as last year when interviewing Jack Emmert about Champions, he talked about how it’s totally possible to make an MMO in 2 years – just not from scratch. He talks about lessons learned and knowledge, but here’s an interesting quote:

Quote:

“Here’s a business tip. Don’t keep building new engines. Take an engine, and improve it. Make three, four, five games out of it before you need to reboot. That’s a business thing”.

They are titles that express exactly the same. How would you call the Star Trek versions of those titles?

Valiant and Dauntless are names from Star Trek Ships, so i'd rather say they should change it up on CO.

Titles are stupid anyway... i would just get rid of them, but whatever... just wanted to point it out that it looks a little bit to familiar for my taste.

Hmmm... That precisely why I would like them changed on the STO side. Moreover there are far better words to reflect longevity than those in the STO universe or general English for that matter.

Yeah but I doubt George Lucas is going to go and say "Well in Chronicals, Indiana Jones is just a padawan. He's a Jedi Knight by the time of Raiders of the Lost Ark. In the latest movie, Crystal Skull, it's essentially a retired Jedi Master leading a young padawan to glory. What do you mean I'm confusing two different franchises? Look buster, it's all a part of a branding process."

Not from the same developers but heres a few titles.

Quake 3
Star Trek Voyager: Elite Force(considered by many the best Trek game "ever")
Star Trek: Elite Force II
Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast
Jedi Knight 3: Jedi Academy
Medal of Honor: Allied Assault
Call of Duty
Return to Castle Wolfenstein
Soldier of Fortune II

You know what all these games have in common? They ALL used the "id Tech 3" engine or "modified" versions of it.
Quake 3 and Elite Force in fact use the same engine with no modifications, and people have even managed to load Q3 maps into EF.

So honestly, i can't see why people keep fussing about Cryptic using the same engine in multiple games.
