Nice read.

And 1st!

"The above mentioned Territory War would play into that nicely as well the ability to create Starbases. All of which are being discussed as possibilities after Season 2 launches."

YES YES YES!

STO has to do this lol :D

"...a good Memory Alpha research score allows players to make unique and specialized ships that can’t be acquired any other way. And then there’s always Starbases…"

Tbh I'm liking the idea of actually creating starbases like we were told would happen back in Vegas few years ago, this would be a great addition to the Klingon and Federation Fleets. Imagine, instead of just going to Earth Spacedock, ot the Great Hall, fleets could go to their own base.

And crafting ships = huge win. It would actually motivate people to craft in Memory Alpha.

Thanks for posting this. I found it to be a very good read. I look forward to some of the new content.

meh the questions read as if it was canned. An interview about an MMO they never touched?

Canned questions or not, I really enjoyed Dan's answers. He seemed very willing to open up on specific ideas he has for the future, dispite the fact that it sounds like they're still in the early planning. It made for a very revealing interview.

I'm personally quite excited. :D

3. What is the one thing about STO you want to improve (e.g. economy, PvP, social tools.)?

As producer it is difficult to name just one thing I’d like to improve, because I take it as a responsibility to constantly be looking for areas for us to improve. As a player, my personal desire is to re-imagine and revamp the way exploration is represented in the game. When I first heard exploration described, I had visions of flying out into the galaxy on a 5 year mission to explore. What we ended up with doesn’t feel like that and instead feels like “what’s behind door number 3”. I’d like to see us remake the exploration sectors to feel much more open and give players a sense they are venturing out into the unknown – far away from known space.
Hehehe a Monty Hall reference. Classic!

+1 for Dan on his humor! :)

Other than that, I’d like to see us to take a look at the end game and provide more compelling types of gameplay at the high end ranks. A Klingon/Federation Territory War is high on the internal team wish list.

8. Is a realm-versus-realm area - an area where the Federation can battle the Klingons for control of resources - under consideration?

This is absolutely under consideration. We talk about it frequently internally and are hoping for the time and resources to be able to bring some sort of Territory War into play for Federation and Klingon players. Our goal would be to include both PVE and PVP components to this and bring more focus to the conflict between these races.
Thank god. make it so!

One point, that came to my attention through reading this article, is the change in leading the STO-Team...from Zinkievich to Daniel Stahl...

Even more, Craig had completly left the team and Daniel has taken over...

WHAT EXCITING NEWS !!!! :D

I am thinking, i will speak out of the heart from many regular forum-readers, when i am stating, that this change will be the BEST what could happen to STO !!!

With Daniel Stahl in charge, we now have a REAL Trek-Fan on the lead.
He had proven so in countless, remarkable posts in this forum, in which he had often stated, when you were reading between the lines, his unhappyness about the current and past status of the game and many Design decisions made by the former chief Zinkievich.

I often thought, that there were real "fights" inside the design-team, some of them wanted to make a real Trek-Game from Fans for the Fans (like Daniel) and others (like Zink) wanted only a game that should be open for the most huge possible number of customers to make real money, but ended with loosing both sides: the "normal" MMO-Player AND most part of the Trek-Community !!

I think, with Daniel in charge, STO could turn the tides, moving away from the "standard" MMO-market (which wont almost accept a game like Star Trek and was a huge mistake to even try so) to a specialized Trek-game for all the Millions of Fans out there... doing so, there is a massive chance to win back all those frustrated fans, who cancelled their subscription, cuz STO wasnt what they were expecting... :(

So, i will end with real good wishes to you, Daniel and i wish you the braveness to realize all your ideas about the game !!! :)

MAKE IT SO and STO will have a proper future...good luck :D

DStahl...DStahl... DStahl!!

Excellent read, this type of info has me very excited and hopeful about the future of STO!

Additionally, (and nothing against Zinc,) but this has me wondering if DStahl wasn't the better man for the job all along? Props to Zinc for getting the game to the shelf (in and of itself no small feat,) but now DStahl is poised to explore "The Undiscovered Country"... the future of STO. I'd say he's off to a flying start (seriously, no pun intended!) :D
