Is using an Xbox Controller (or PS3) better than a mouse and keyboard?

I always thought that you just can't get the same accuracy with controllers or joysticks as you can with a mouse.

not really, you would be correct in that you do not get as much percision/accuracy/controls as with a keyboard. Some people just prefer it.

flying a escort with a joystick (ie xbox controller) is just more fun.

ever find that you hit battery+EVM and the ship moves very fast, well the xbox controller is your answer if you wan to keep the target in the crosshair.

dont worry about the number of button, here is easily enough button combo for all the function. ofc you will still need the mouse for stuff like inventory, but you can be hardcore and AHK the mouse cursor and button to the joypad.
