Subject: Re Project M.A.D.A.M.

Sirs first and foremost my crew and I wish to thank you for designating us intial consults for the project I have code named M.A.D.A.M. Details follow of our initial designs. First some explanation is in order for I fear I have deviated from my initial orders. While I understand the concerns over the recent losses suffered by Starfleet becasue of the Klingon carrier warships I do not think building our own version solves the problem. Creating our own super dreadnaught much like the experimental Jupiter class would only lead to further escalation much like the Nuclear escalation on Earth during the late 20th century. A path that could esialy end is disaster. Furthermore such a ship would be a insult to the ideals of the Federation even in a time of war.

Instead I reveal to you Project M.A.D.A.M. or the Mobile Advanced Drydock and Medical prototype ship. This ship would uphold the very ideals the Federation was built upon. With the most advanced medical and engineering bays ever attached to a set of warp nacelles she is designed to combat world wide epidemics, natural disasters, solved the most complex of engineerng problems on the fly or sit in the middle of a battle and keep our ships in fighting form. This ship is designed to provide front line support in the middle of a hectic battle. With highly trained and skilled medical and engineering teams who specialize in mid-combat reparis on the fly she will help turn the tide of battles and then warp out to stave off an worldwide epidemic on one of colony worlds. General specification as follows:

Command style: Science
Weapon bays: 3 forward and 1 rear (needed trade off for advanced shielding)
Unanble to equip torpedos--- room requiured for advanced labs instead
Device slots: 4
Consoles availbable: 4 science, 4 engineering, 1 tactical
Bridge Officers: 1 commander science, 1 commander engineering, 1 Lt. tactical, 1 ensign universal

Hulll: Base 40K
Turn rate: 6
Shields: Standard science vessell shield boost and secondary shields

Secondary shields: Should primary shielding fail there are built in secndary shields that will atuomatically deploy. Equivalent to Mark VI covariant shields (hence the replacement of two rear beam banks)

Standard science abilities of subsytem targetting replaced with more advanced powers:

Emergency Medical team: Beams an emergency triage team to an ally doubling their crew regeneration rate for 60 seconds. 30 Second cooldown and 90 second lockout (means targetted ally can not have another team for 90 seconds)

Damage Control teams: Beams a highly skilled damage contrl team to an ally. Instantly repair 5k of hull damage and double hull regeneration for 60 seconds. 30 second cooldown and 90 second lockout

Holodecoy: Generates 1 to 3 holographic images of your ship. While these images do not have the combat ability of photonic fleet they will confuse enemy sensors. Any lock on you has chance to reflect onto a decoy instead. They are easily destroyed however. Designed for emergecny use only. Decoys last until destroyed or red alert cancelled. 3 minute recharge.

Sirs you have my crew and I's preliminary report. We look forward to further communication.

As I have yet to have recieved a response to you I can only hope you are reviewing my proposal as opposed to planning my court martial for disregarding orders. After further discussion with my chief engineer and my security chief we have decided that additional options should be available for Project MADAM.

Infiltration team: A team of skilled engineers and security operatives with detailed training at sabotage. Beams a team to an enemy vessels that can disrupt subsytems and has a small chance of causing a warp corp breach. Advanced pattern enhancers allow transport thru enemy shields.

i like it. It's interesting. Are you imagining something where a player would drydock in the ship for a period of time and then be returned to combat, or something else?

Archived Post 11-01-2010 04:19 PM

another idea in general. An ability to copy a players ship so that both (or more) are all labeled w/ the players display title, lol.

Indeed there would be a docking ablilty although to use it would put the ship at considerable risk during combat so it will be once combat is over. However, during combat this proposed ship will keep her allies up long after they should have been an anitmatter cloud.

In an enviroment of slower space combat, and possible ship loss, this ship would be invaluable. I know the dev's are looking into it. If they do go and put in ship loss, or death and then elimination from the instance, i think a ship like this should be a high priority.

RE: Project M.A.D.M.A.M

Sirs, Madams, Member Races,

Adm. Stipe hits on some obvious weaknesses in our current WarStat and our substandard ability to offer AD and AP (Area Denial, Area Projection for non-Federation Standard speakers). That said, the scale, scope, resources and manpower required to realize these craft would require a fundamental and devastating redirect of materiél badly needed in other fronts where conventional means have enabled us to at least secure borders on all sector fronts. To force us to prematurely pull manpower and the Engineering and Scientific resources from those sectors would create a "brain drain" that would require us to do a systematic re-deploy of reserves (namely the 3rd, 10 and 17th Fleets, all currently tasked in QRT (Quick Reaction Team) rolls.

Perhaps after next quarters' report from Daystrom we could get a SitRep on their Tachyonic Wave Shifting technologies that would be required for the simple "Photonic-like Mimic" Stipe refers to. In addition, we would have to properly asses the impact of assimilating Member planets local Militias / Home fleets performance in ex-system engagements before we can be sure that this may be attainable.

Let's try not to repeat the "Multi-Vector Assault" fiasco. A lot of men and resources were wasted for a "Hat trick" of questionable value.

Respectfully,

To Whom it May Concern;

I like the ship proposed. I think it would suit us well, especially in the intense space battles that we have become accustomed to.

One concern I have is that such a ship would eventually, become a sought-after target on the battlefield and the enemy would learn to adapt to whatever defenses it has. Especially without the inclusion of torpedo weapons in its design. Perhaps, we could also introduce an advanced escort of some kind to help protect it from such occurrences, or at least the ability to deploy mines as a means of shielding it from bombardment.

In terms on a new escort, I was thinking something not unlike the existing Akira class, which has a proven combat record, but improved to give it additional support for increased tactical personnel, or a more combat-oriented Nova class variant, better capable of addressing the existing Nova class' supplemental role as a scout vessel than the current ship in service.

I should note, that earlier in my career, I successfully commanded both an Akira and Nova class starship and found them to most useful in the field.

Your thoughts, as always are greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,

Captain Kim Sharp

Admiral, while I find the idea of a mobile support platform intriguing I find the general idea to be lacking in scope. I propose that instead of mobile support platforms that Starfleet Corp of Engineers focus their efforts on developing modular Space Stations.

Modular Space Stations offer a better permanent solution for areas in which Starfleet presence is scarce at best. By making it modular it would allow fleets to set up and develop the stations that would best fit their need in that area.

Sincerely,

Vice Admiral Ethan Kris Magnus

To my respected collegues,

I am well aware of the drain of resources such a project undertaking would be. I fully agree with RADM's assesment of that drain. However, the short term loss must be balanced by the long term gain. It is there I believe the value of this project will be realized. Several ships of this class posted within a fleet will extend the mission life of said fleet by at least a factor of two. Between keeping ships in the fight that would otherwise be out of it, preventing ships from being destroyed, and allowing for complex repairs on site these ships will be worth the resources. However, I do respect RADM's opinion. We all attempt to serve the Federation as best as we can.

Respectfully,

Jonathon Stipe
