C-store opinion

Hey, i'm not usually a big person to complain, however i have an opinion about the c-store. i do not feel that most of the stuff on the c-store should be there. i feel that new ship costumes, new personal uniforms, bridge packs, and some of the new ships. should not be placed on the c-store. I know they do this to make more money and all, but more people would play if they didn't have to pay for some of the newer content. i can see why ship slots, character slots, galaxy x, and starship retrofits are there and other things.. i don't want the galaxy x or the retrofits to be there, but i'm okay with it. because you can get one retrofit for free, its just the costumes and bridges. I'm not saying i want to get one costume or bridge pack for free, but that they should not be ever of been put on the c-store, and should of been released with the game, or treated like the costumes/ bridges that were released with the game.

Microtranactions are simply a necessity for games to make money these days, especially with all the free to play options out there. None of the items being offered give a player a huge gameplay advantage. Therefore, we are paying for mostly trivial (visual) enhancements. I think it's very fair for them to charge for these. I just spent money to get the enterprise pack. They made money off of the fact that I liked this content, which is their goal.

Bottom line is that you don't have to buy anything extra, and you can still complete all game content.

I'm not against the C-Store, per se. What I AM against is having things there that can't be gotten through other (hard-to-get) means in-game. The only items that do this right now are the ship refits (minus the Excelsior, for some reason). Other than that, I've learned to live with it.

No they aren't. Cryptic MMOs are pretty much the only ones that use a cash shop on top of a monthly subscription. It's insulting, because this game still doesn't have a whole lot of content even after a year. If it were F2P it would be justifiable, but right now it's just greedy.

And worst of all, it works because star trek nerds will gladly spend upwards of 25 dollars for a ship identical in performance to free ones.

i support it, because i want stuff faster. if they had no c-store they would make less money and if they had less money they might have to lose a designer or artist or would have to focus their resources elsewhere. so if the c-store gets me stuff quicker im all for it.

its my choice to spend my money and nothing is needed to play the game.

if they did not have the c-store i can guarantee some if not most of these items that we have now available to buy, would not even have been made yet. so like i said ill happily pay if it gets me those items quicker.

I beg to differ. Just look at the Blizzard store and see how much they're selling their crap for. The C-Store is cheap by comparison. And that's just one example.

I subscribe to 7 MMOs and play several more F2P games and STO and CO aren't the only two games to have Subs and MTs. Blizzard, as you mention, also sells vanity items in their store (pets and celestial mount), plus they synergize out rare items on cards as marketing tools to make you buy unrelated game items: buy X and get a code to unlock Y in the game. MTs are part of the fabric of the environment now.

I guess I missed when that happened.

I still say it's a ****** thing to do though. At least WoW had content before they started that.

WoW cost $63 million to make and took 4.5 years to go from concept to launch. STO was around 18 months and around $13 million. I'm willing to cut them some slack; especially considering WoW grosses over $100 million a month and still has some MT items. To each their own, though.

I consider anything that is not canon to 2409 to be fair game for the C-store. Enterprise, TOS, TNG, DS9, and Voyager uniforms and ships should be part of the C-store since it doesn't fit with the canon of 2409. Although, I give a little leeway for ships since it is very likely to have a ship from TNG still around in 2409, but uniforms change every few years
