Engineer, Science, Tactical...and Command.

I want to start a new character, but I am already tired of the options. There are only 3. I propose that Season 4 introduce a fourth branch, and my idea is that it be Command.

But.....you're already in command.......you command a starship *dizzy*

That whole team leader, starship command, energy and projectile weapons section IS your command training.

You could add something with completely different mechanics...like merchant...but that would be so complicated that I doubt we will ever see it in this game. It has to be a branch that is similar to the ones already in the game, combat focused meaning that it involves support or dps or tanking. Command would be a middle class, half support (buffs) and half damage dealer. I am welcome to other ideas if someone can supply them?

I think he means specializing in Command, with command skills that enhance how you perform in some way, like how Science gets the Holographic fleet to call on.

I think Command should be a complete breakaway from the other classes. When playing Command, you should start at Lieutenant and rank up to Lieutenant Commander after the tutorial, and jump straight in to a LtCdr ship. That way, once they raise the cap to Admiral, you can go on and be Fleet Admiral. I also think that, after Captain, a Command officer should be able to choose whether or not to rank up to a Flag Officer or to stay as a captain of his own ship. If he decides to rank up, he should be able to command a fleet of ships, wither player controlled, if a fleet agrees to it, or NPC controlled. As an RA LH, he should get only 2 ships, from any tier he likes, but with tier 5 stats. The disadvantage would be that they can't use their own powers anymore; they have to rely on the npc ships' powers which should be weaker than player powers. At RA UH, He should get a third ship, at VA he should get a fourth, etc. until Fleet Admiral. At that point, the game changes again and he can choose between three types of dreadnoughts or specialty ships: Some special Escort, the Gal-X (Free, of course), or an advanced Sci ship (I think the Vesta Class would fill this nicely). They would then go out with their own fleet, which, btw, should be customizable.

I think we should even go further than just Command, and request that Medical break away from Science. This would allow for more specialization in both classes.

It would have to be diplomat. Its the only skill that isnt covered by the current skill set. Every Captain has to operate under some level of diplomacy...but very few would be highly and specifically trained in it.

These are the Picards, those tasked for First Encounter, those who over see negotiations(not necessaroly the negotiator, but perhaps delivering and hosting these relations), etc, etc.

The problem is that any non-combat content has to be specifically and meticously designed from the ground up, similar to that of an episode. Everything in game is combat because its easy to just spawn NPC "rats" whack.

People will get tired of the same mission re-dressed with races of different noses and skin tones...yeah, the same goes for kill 5 things, re-dressed in diferent environments...but just not as quickly.

Exactly. In Star Trek, characters can specialize in command just like they specialize in engineering, science, or tactical. For that matter, they can also specialize in the helm. Perhaps that is another branch that could be created, although I do not know how that would translate to ground combat.

For the purposes of this game Command = tactical memory alpha http://memory-alpha.org/wiki/Command_division

And the way the game works , exactly what would a medical division ship do? What medical powers would it use in battle? Doesn't quite work.

Really we would all be in command red or gold depending on the uniform but it was a visual choice so people could easily see what the others class was , and the way the ships were divided.

Unless new specializations are created for this game, no one will ever want to start a new character. That sounds like a recipe for failure to me.

You could create sub-specializations of existing career tracks.

For example, some Tactical Officers work in Security while others are trained in war.
Some Science officers are medical doctors while others are non-medical researchers.
