Feature Episode 3: Frozen - And The Server Stayed Up!

So, despite the comments saying that this server would go down like the last two times, the server stayed up with no maintenance whatsoever (sure there was lag, but that was to be expected with the sheer amount of players) :D
so Devs, i congratulate you on surprising us :D keep up the great work for the next two episodes, and all future feature episodes :D

One question - is it because they actually fixed something, or because fewer people showed up expecting it to crash?

The number of people logged in at 11:30am PST (the time things started going bad the last two weeks) was about the same as the last two weeks. The difference is that we fixed several bugs.

The main problem was a bug that was causing mission map instances to stick around for a few minutes after the player(s) exited, when they should have closed immediately. That led to the shard getting overloaded (both CPU and RAM), which triggered a couple of other bugs. First there was a problem with the load balancer and how it dealt with machines that are getting close to full which caused already overloaded machines to get even more overloaded. Second there was a problem with our error recovery when a machine started running out of memory, which would require manual intervention of an ops person to clean up, rather than cleaning automatically.

Those problems have all been fixed, and things are running very smoothly today.

I AM glad that the servers didnt crash this time, but I was still kinda hoping they would so I could have a giggle about it... nothing against the hard-working devs or anything. Just one of those perverse amusements I have...

Well done, Cryptic-types! I had fun and didn't bug out.

The servers stayed up......do you have any idea how much money I lost on that?:o

There was more than a few ships in the area, so good work on that. It's impressive to see actual results after a few years on a Warhammer server, where you crashed at any hint of action. And it was never resolved.

This is like a paradise, where things actually change for the better. Reality check time! *Pinches arm* :p

The servers may have stayed up however I was still getting a vast amount of disconnects when trying to play the new series. In the end I gave up and hope I will be more successful tomorrow.
