Advice for Science Vessels?

I haven't had much experience with science vessels, but I'm leveling a Science captain now who will be dedicated to flying them.

I know almost nothing about space science powers however, or how to equip a science vessel.

So I'm looking for any advice, especially in the area of space science powers.. what's good, what's bnad, what is useful for which situations, and why?

Any replies appreciated.

Before they destroyed the forums there was a post in the Sci ship section for a Shield Shredder Science Build that was just wonderful but I can't seem to find anything like it now. I was hoping to find it as I've gone back to killing time with my Sci alt till season 4 goes live. I remember the basics of it, but I'm not sure if shield ripping is the style you are going for.

Currently the nerf pendulum is on photonic abilities. Stick and train for spacial anomalies: Tyken's Rift, Gravity Well etc. Also, you will find that as a Science toon, you have to be really careful on your skill point spread. Stick with only one type or class of abilities to be most effective. As for ships, go by play style. Ships like the Intrepid are small, quick and fire power can be focused more on the front of the ship. For the big ships, good old beam arrays and good shielding will allow a more sit back and support role. The above link has some nice builds. Just remember to tweak things to your preferred play style: cookie cutter builds make the player adapt not the other way around.

That's a good link except it suffers from the same problem so many other threads like it suffer. It just tells you endgame builds, never anything about whats good for leveling.

Go get the breen shield set, also use tachyon beam with target shield subsystems. Keep your Aux power reletivialy high. After that it wont take much phaser power to get their shields down. Use your sci skills to get the shields down and torps to finish em off. Effective considering Sci dont have much power to spare as far as weapons are concerned, THis skill worked great for me when leveling my sci no matter what Tier ship i used. I got the breen set at LTCMDR and it was a mark IV that lasted me until i got RA. Great for SCI toons. If you dont want to go that route just throw em into an Escort and blast your way to VA
