Feedback & Analysis

Hey guys,

I just wanted to give you all a head's up that Geko and I are going to be getting our hands dirty over the next few months with a number of different aspects of ships. As a result, I am particularly interested in hearing your opinions and thoughts in several areas.

This being said, I want to keep your expectations moderated; there's a ton we'd like to do, a lot we can do, but also quite a bit we won't be able to do for a wide variety of reasons from time to balance. Also, I can't at this point give out as many details about what we are doing as we have with the duty officer system, and I apologize in advance that this will be a lot more listening and analyzing and a lot less spilling cans of beans.

Specific questions:
1. What ship(s) did you fly as you ranked up? For each, primarily PvE, PvP or both? Group or solo?
2. What ship(s) do you fly at cap? For each, primarily PvE, PvP or both? Group or solo?
3. Which ship(s) do you think are currently overpowered? PvE, PvP, or both? Specifically why?
4. Which ship(s) do you think are currently underpowered? PvE, PvP, or both? Specifically why?
5. What feature of your favorite ships do you like the most? As in, console configurations, station configurations, aesthetics, special abilities, etc.?

Looking forward to all your feedback!

1. What ship(s) did you fly as you ranked up? For each, primarily PvE, PvP or both? Group or solo? All of the above. On my main eng I use cruisers. Still waiting on a T5 constitution. See Sig please. On my Sci all Sci. On my Tac all escort.
2. What ship(s) do you fly at cap? For each, primarily PvE, PvP or both? Group or solo? Read above
3. Which ship(s) do you think are currently overpowered? PvE, PvP, or both? Specifically why? Carriers
4. Which ship(s) do you think are currently underpowered? PvE, PvP, or both? Specifically why? Constitution at endgame. Along with anything not at T5.
5. What feature of your favorite ships do you like the most? As in, console configurations, station configurations, aesthetics, special abilities, etc.? I normally mix and match till I find what is right for me.

I flew the science vessels as I ranked my 2 Fed characters up. I also used them mainly for solo (and a little group) PvE as I ranked my 2 VAs up. I haven't leveled up my Klingon character yet, however.

I fly the Long Range Science Vessel Retrofit on both my characters (solo/group PvE). I've also used it for some PvP, and I have used my MVAM Escort and D'Kyr vessels.

I don't PvP enough to comment on that aspect (although, I'm sure others will, lol), and I don't really see any overpowered ships when I do solo/group PvE, to be honest. I've always felt that the science vessels have been a bit overpowered since closed beta (although, they've been toned down enough to make them not as powerful; I remember taking down Borg cubes in about 25-30 seconds and thinking, 'this is silly' lol), but I can't honestly say any ship is overpowered, PvE-wise.

Again, same as above, really. I'm sure others will give much better feedback.

My favorite feature of the Intrepid-R is the aesthetics, followed by the station configurations a close second. I'm a huge Voyager fan, so I love the Intrepid design. However, the officer stations are really nice (I like crowd control/engagement dictation, so I love the officer stations on the Intrepid-R), and I hardly ever use the special ability (but it is a pretty cool one!).

1. I flew the Connie refit until Lt 5 and then Escorts all the way up.

2. I went for the Fleet Escort until VA 1, then the Defiant Refit. I tried more out only because of the 50% ship sale and fell IN LOVE with the Prometheus MVAM. I'm flying a Galaxy X right now but it's only bearable with every engineering console devoted to RCS accelerators and every point and power setting optimized for weapons and turnrate.

3. Honestly? MVAM Prometheus and the Garamba. Maybe the Excelsior slightly.

4. Sovereign, Galaxy X mainly because it's so persnickiety and reliant on the phaser cannon's boost... and the Defiant, which doesn't really benefit from the cloak in PvE. The cloak is almost a necessity for the Galaxy X because you need to line up your first shot but I don't think it's worth the tradeoffs in the Defiant and if I could rip that cloak out and put in something else for PvE, I would.

5. MVAM and the Vulcan Science ship are fun. Excelsior ability is useful but it sucks I have to fly a cruiser to use it, even if it is the best cruiser.

I like Tac-heavy BO loadouts. Sci-powers are flashy but confusing and Engineering BO powers seem dull. I'm mainly into Power to Shields and Engineering Team for survivability. I really like a maneuverable glass canon with a couple of buttons to hit to keep my shields and hull up.

Aesthetics wise, I like ships with a saucer, two prominent nacelles, and a rounded hull. Enterprise-like. I wind up trying to make classes like the MVAM ship look as Enterprise-like as possible by making the top nacelles stand out more and going for a more rounded saucer.

My favorite nacelles are the Sovereign nacelles.

The Vesper is my absolute favorite ship in the game and if I could fly it at T5 as an Escort/Cruiser hybrid, I would. That was why I wanted a T5 Connie and was a bigger disappointment for me than losing the T5 Connie when that idea was shot down. It's small, it looks at home in the post-TNG era, and it has classic proportions. I'd never flinch at seeing it onscreen.

For my main Tac VA:
1. Solo PVE: Sweet sweet TOS connie (I loved that ship :)), escort (even though it was ugly), Akira!, Defiant, Fleet Escort.

2 Solo PVE: I live in my Defiant Refit. (it seems a bit flimsy in anything but normal, but I love it all the same) ( I do pvp from time to time but the escort nerf combined with cruiser invulnrability have turned me off)

for my sci officer:
1. I used the science ships all the way up, except at t3, those bubble fronts on the sci ships *gag* *gags more* *gags EVEN more* And the t3 standard cruisers YUCK, (this was before Nebulas) I used an excel. Also disliked the look of the RA sci ships so used fleet escort.

2. I use a defiant refit on her too, I've tried the intrepid refit, but...as I've stated further on, so slow at killing stuff in PVE.

3. Cruisers are overpowered, at least in PVP, far to easy for someone to keep them up.

4. I was just going to leave this at escorts but then I started thinking about the science ships. They kill things so slow in pve solo. It's like start a fight put autofire on, make supper, do some dishes come back and MAYBE it's dead. Really need to find a way to boost their ability to kill things faster.

Nebula has all that and it turns like there's a whale sitting on the rudder laughing at you.

Escorts in pvp. With the lack of burst due to nerfs, they are flimsy at best and can't really stand in a fight, nor do they have the ability to pack enough punch.

5. I love the escorts, the defiant refit especially (not for the cloak, I never use it) but because of that extra tactical slot. Also it just looks awesome.

All primarily PvE, about 75% group, 25% solo.

2. What ship(s) do you fly at cap? For each, primarily PvE, PvP or both? Group or solo?

I alternate between Fleet Escort and Galaxy Dreadnaught. Mostly PvE for all. About 50/50 group and solo play.

3. Which ship(s) do you think are currently overpowered? PvE, PvP, or both? Specifically why?
4. Which ship(s) do you think are currently underpowered? PvE, PvP, or both? Specifically why?

For 3-4 I don't have much of an opinion, sorry!

5. What feature of your favorite ships do you like the most? As in, console configurations, station configurations, aesthetics, special abilities, etc.?

As you can tell from my ship selections, I like the functionality of escorts but the aesthetics of the Galaxy type ships. Round saucers = good. Special abilities are nice but don't turn the tide for me.

Before I post a (hopefully) more well-thought-out part of the discussion, I wanted to get one thing in early:

If you're not going to allow for the customization of bridge officer stations (or make them all universal or something), please, please give us more Lt. commander and commander bridge officer stations and fewer ensign stations. Please. At the very least let the Excelsior and/or Nebula be the guide for changing bridge officer stations on existing ships.

Looking forward to all your feedback!

I generally stick to ships of one sort as I level up a character. The exception is my TOS starter ship, which I ALWAYS use because I grew up with TOS and it says Trek to me like nothing else. If I want to try new ships out, I make a new Captain to do it with. All my characters for the first several months leveled up with Fed Cruisers. I tried leveling up an Escort with a Tactical captain but found it did not suit my style of play. Since returning to the game for the Feature Episodes, I have leveled up with all Science ships. I play almost always PvE. I usually solo, but once my crew gets large enough I train back up BOs for grouping, since Cruisers and Science ships are both so good at teaming.

My character at cap flies the Vulcan ship, the D'Kyr. My original character flies the Excelsior refit. Again, almost always PvE, usually solo, with back up officers so I have a grouping load out. I don't switch ships by mission. I'm a roleplayer and that seems odd to me.

I don't think I have enough experience min/maxing to say if a ship over or under powered. I generally fly a ship for it's aesthetics and because it makes a lore sense for the character.

My favorite ships are the ones with distinctive looks and animations, firm ties to the lore, and unusual powers. The D'Kyr healing shuttle would be far cooler if I could change who it is assigned to during combat. My favorite single feature for any ship is the TOS interior; if you gave us interiors that matched more ships, like a WoK interior or a D'Kyr interior, I would buy them instantly. I will generally work with whatever weapon arrangement, BO seating, and other stats my favorite ship has, without complaint, based on it's coolness factor and RP value.

Thanks for asking.

Checks to make sure this is the Federation forum this time. Boy do I feel silly.

I only PvE. Not a fan of PvP in any game (just don't like the style, nothing to do with STO's specific implementation).

1. What ship(s) did you fly as you ranked up? For each, primarily PvE, PvP or both? Group or solo?
Miranda -> Nova -> Intrepid -> Luna -> Intrepid Refit

2. What ship(s) do you fly at cap? For each, primarily PvE, PvP or both? Group or solo?
Intrepid Refit for all purposes except when forced into a shuttle, then I use a Runabout.

3. Which ship(s) do you think are currently overpowered? PvE, PvP, or both? Specifically why?
N/A

4. Which ship(s) do you think are currently underpowered? PvE, PvP, or both? Specifically why?
5. What feature of your favorite ships do you like the most? As in, console configurations, station configurations, aesthetics, special abilities, etc.?

Both questions are answered together here... I feel the Intrepid Refit is at a disadvantage due to having the only timed bonus feature of the Refits. Both the Defiant and Galaxy can use their special feature as long as they want. I would quite like it if it was possible to use the ablative armor generator for an unlimited time, just reduce its effectiveness and add ways for it to be disabled. By 2409, I'm sure that the specs have been leaked to the KDF (and other factions) and weakness have been found. An alternative would be the ability to have the armor as a removable console so I could equip something more useful if the timer is never going to be removed.

I've always wanted to use an Intrepid ever since I saw Voyager for the first time. I love the design of the ship and everything about it. I really can't speak to other ship designs, as I am just entranced with the Intrepid. I guess in my magical rainbow filled dream universe, I would be able to take the cloaking device console from the Defiant Refit and equip it into my Intrepid. ;)

1) Both
2) whatever I feel like, I'm not terribly fond of any of them. both
3) none really
4) sovereign or galaxy-X, due to different things

I mostly like appearance. I still want a vesta, although I'll probably use an ambassador as long as its not too bad. I'd like a tier 5 ship with higher level BO stations but weapons perhaps.

I will admit i really like the excalibur, and was a bit disappointed at its low only level, as cruisers don't really offer anything at that tier.
