My Possible Build
 
I quite new to the game, I've played casually for a while but never seriously built my characters. But I want to build a decent engineer character. I want him to be quite balanced for both PVP and PVE but geared more towards PVE, anyway I've done a possible build, any ideas on what should be changed?

I thinking of the Star Cruiser but not set on it.

BTW I'm just Lt at the moment, I'm just planning ahead.

Far too specialized. Read this skillpoint spending guide. No work on efficiency skills to maximize the ship power advantage for a Star Cruiser (check ship power guides), BOff power choices are haphazardly everywhere, lacking synergy.

My suggestion:

-Drop the Tac Team to 1, move Torp: HY to 2. Tac Team 1 is more than enough for washing borg boarding parties and auto-shield reallocation

-Use more EP to Shields. Cycle both, one after another, to maintain shield resists and more shield power. Recommend EP to Shields 2 at least.

-Again, if you want EP to Weapons, double it up and cycle. EP to Weapons 1 is enough.

-Reverse Shield Polarity is a horrible bad choice as a rank 3 power. Suggest choosing Aux to Structural 3, Eject Warp Plasma 3

-Eject Warp Plasma 1 without a method to quickly turn and speed your ship up. You need synergy for this, suggest EP to Engines for the speed boost. Rank 1 will do.

-Engineering Team 3 is far better than 2.

-Extend Shields only works if you really intend to team up with people majority of the time. Else, swap it out.

-Suggest keeping a Science Team 1 on for its minor shield heal and more importantly, its science debuff wash ability

-Tykens Rift 1 is a horrible Lt choice. Suggest Hazard Emitters 2.

Thx for response, I tried reading that guide but to be honest math isn't my best subject so figuring out the best way to allocate points to get the pest from the points spent will only result in me getting a headache, I just allocated the based on the skill planner telling me how many skill it effects.

I've change my original plan (as best as I could) based on the advise; here's the link to the new plan.

Take a few points out of T1 & T2 stuff so you're at, or just near the minimum to get to the next Tier.

In T1 for example, got 7800 / 6700, so I would drop some to get closer to that 6700 and free up points for the good stuff in later Tiers. I don't think the points in Tac Team do anything, or enough to worry about so free up some there (someone correct me if I'm wrong, just what I've read)

Seems you're going for tanking, so some points in Starship Combat Maneuvers in T2, and Starship Battle Strategy in T3 would help. Take a few of the 9's out in your other T2 skills (very small bonus from 8 to 9, or even 7 to 9 for that matter) and that'll free ya up for those.

ok I've got rid of the points in Tac Team, and dropped some points in tier 1 and 2, though for tier 2 I had to drop some points from cruiser captain because I dropped everything else as far as I dare.
