Quantum Mortars?

I've noticed Quantum Mortars have impressive range, but they won't attack something that I'm not already engaged with (and by engaging enemies, I have to be well within the mortars range, which defeats its purpose). Is there any other way of convincing a Mortar to open fire?

Not sure if it's a viable option for you however have you tried to use a sniper rifle? you can shoot from almost 40K away? Then you can swap back to your normal weapon.

Other than that you could send your away team ahead when they attack the morter should fire.

Only idea's I have.

Mortars fire SO SLOWLY, but they can be great in pvp when they fire through walls at people. Cryptic needs to look at mortars. Also damn you pretorius for beating me to the lol ground.

Well, I'd really like the Mortar to be able to slam the initial bunching of enemies, but I guess that's not possible.
