Cardassian Commander (Gul) and Captain (Legate) look ridiculously bloated
 
This is something I just noticed while working in the Foundry, since in the game you never manage to get close enough to really look at the Cardassians closely. Basically, the Commander (Gul) and Captain (Legate) models look ridiculously bloated.

It doesn't seem believable that anyone would actually wear armor that bulky, and it's not true to what we saw of them in DS9. If anything the Ensigns (Gil) look closest to what we saw on screen. Glin doesn't look too bulky, but I'm not sure why part of their uniform is white.

After that the armor just looks extremely oversized and stupid looking.

I guess the legate's (which is a Cardassian admiral on screen) has been sitting behind the desk too long getting fat.

Yup, there is a reason why Kirk was thrilled that he was "demoted" to captain. He was considerate enough to share his advice with Picard, but Picard failed to pass on that advice to Janeway.

And yes, you are correct that Legates are Cardassian Admirals and Guls are the Captains and Colonels. I am not sure if the Glinns are Lt. Commanders or Commanders. WHen first introduced in "The Wounded" (TNG), they seemed to be Lieutenants. In DS9, they seemed to be Lt. Commanders.

I'm guessing by Commander and Captain he's not referring to the rank of the NPC but the type of mob. The foundry uses 5 different NPCs to make up the NPC groups, from LT to Captain with the Legate being Captain (top tier) NPCs. I suspect this is what was meant in the thread title.

And off topic but I tried Dereliction Duty and found my new favourite Foundry mission. Amazing mission, it finally removed Conjoined from the top spot.

Yes, I was referring to the ranks in terms of the in-game mechanics. Basically, in the Foundry, enemies have ranks from En-Capt, regardless of what their "lore" rank is. I wasn't thinking about how that might confuse people.

Regardless of the in-game/lore ranks, the NPCs I'm referring to are the Guls and Legates. If you look at them closely, they don't look anything like the Cardassians we saw on screen (none were ever that bulky).

I just don't think the art direction for them is at all accurate to ST. However, I suppose Cryptic has more important things to worry about right now. I guess we can hope they get an overhaul if we ever have a Cardassian FE.

but in general I think you're right.
The Cardassians have the same problem the Klingons seem to have (particularly with the shoulder pads):
they need to be brought down to reasonable proportions.
Had the actors really looked that way they would have probabaly been unable to ..well act in their costumes.

and from what I've read about that costume it weighted so much, few people besides Arnold could have moved in it properly.
