Sao Paulo - Quad Phaser Cannons

Ok...I know what this is, that it scales with rank, and that it's damage is tied to engine power levels, not weapon power levels. But here's my problem.

What I would expect to see is as the power level increases, the weapon damage increases. The opposite occurs...damage drops.

Even more odd, when I pop an engine battery or EPtE, the damage listed before hand remains the same.

I would expect this weapons damage to increase with any increase to engine power. At some point, it should do more damage than a dual cannon, but it isn't.

Just wondering if I am missing something...if anyone else is using this weapona and what they do.

The Quad Cannon's damage is still affected by your weapon power level, it just has an added -10 to engine power.

So its basically a Dual Cannon with -10 to engine power? Or does it do far more damage?

At VA, it does slightly more DPS than Dual Cannons MK XI. and by slightly, I mean maybe 2-3 more dps.

If you want to get the Sao Paulo for the skin, go ahead and get it. If you want it for the quad cannons, save your c-store points. I'll take my Mk 12 anti-borg weapons over those any day of the week, especially since they don't drain my engine power. Now, something to give the FX of quad cannons on my DHC weapons, well, that might be interesting. :)

The big thing about the quad cannons is that it gets you access to a high dps weapon at a captain level and is good up to at least RA UH 1 when you can replace it with a Mk XI weapons. Kinda like how I keep the weapons from the original enterprise so I don't have to keep replacing them.

Maybe it's just me, but I went from two dual cannons and two quantum torpedo launchers forward to the quad cannons and three quantum torpedoes forward and I feel like I'm doing more damage overall. Maybe it's just me.

In STFs it could very well be. Enough key targets in STFs are unshielded that the third torpedo would more than make up for losing the cannon. But dealing with shields (Say Donatra or Tac cubes), there's no way the quad can beat two DHCs and you're just pumping torpedoes into shields that negate them down to pretty much nothing.

I am kinda soft on the Quad Cannons. They have nice "shinies" (accurate sound and cool visualization) But the -10 Engine power is silly compared to the minimal damage output increase over a set of DHCs. Also, you get some purp DHCs at least you get some good modifiers!

Possibly. But in STFs there's also four other ships pumping energy into shields so, in my escort, I can make attack runs on the unshielded - or less shielded - sides. And even then, in solo content, I don't notice a major difference. It could just be my perception of it, but I still contend that the quad cannons are a viable - albeit not optimal - weapon for endgame, at least on the PVE side. (I don't PVP, so I can't comment, nor am I particularly concerned, about its viability in PVP.)

And in the end, it's my ship. I'll use 'em if I want to, gorrammit. :p
