Bug Vs Galor

OK...the lack of Science slots on the bug ship is really killing me.

One slot guys?!!?!?!?!?

One science. That means all I can do is put in 35% more shield or regen rate console. Galor has three!!!! Galor wins!!!

Then we got 4 slots of engineering. Ok what to do with that? How much resistence is really going to help. Maybe some Shield power consoles? Weapon power? some pay to win cosnsoles end up going there. Cuz I just dont need that much resistence cuz its a moot point. Galor has four itself. Tie!!!!

Battery slots you got 3 for the bug. You have 4 for the Galor. Galor wins.

I do have four tac consoles. Galor has three. Bug wins here.

Then you get to the DHC arcs compared to the Galors 180 arcs. Depending on play style and skill level this is a tie. I have issues keeping people in my arcs...its killing me. Galor wins for me here.

Turrets in the back? Bug has three....Galor has 4. I mean four. Its strips those shields and with the 180 cannons I can broadside as I turn around with my galor. Galor Wins!!!!

Turn rate..Bug wins here..BARELY

The more I look at it. Its (galor) a better ship. maybe its just for me but I cant do the same damage with the same weapons.

Thoughts?!?!?!

In a PvE game where Damage is king the Bug wins in almost every conceivable way. All my Fleetmates who have both choose the Bug over the Galor - especially with this new Jem'hadar set polaron boost.

That is a good point. In PVE you really dont have escorts whipping around you like you have in PVP. Good point.

The other side is burst damage in PVP. DHC will always do more burst...u might not be top damage..but u will kill things faster.

You're not seriously suggesting that because the bug uses DHCs that have a limited arc, that the Galor is better with single cannons? You're essentially claiming all cruisers with single cannon + turret builds are superior to all DHC + turret escorts.

Besides which, a beam array build will always out-dps an all cannon+turret build if you set it up right. 7 disruptor arrays with Fire At Will 2 or 3 and max weapon power do quite a bit more dps than four cannons and four turrets with rapid fire 1 or 2. Turret builds are for boosting special procs. Beam builds are for melting targets.

Your right....BUT....FAW doesnt give me the burst damage a turret \ cannon\ beam overload can.....and with the galor's escort like movement I can move around almost like an escort.......but again...the DHC are better burst than this....this might be somewhere inbetween FAW cruiser dps and Escort Burst DPS.

Science Slot: Galor wins!!!

Engineering Slot: Tie!!!!

Irrelevant Device Slot: Galor wins.

Tactical Consoles: Bug wins.

Sustained Damage Capabilities. Galor wins.

Burst Damage: Bug wins.

Turn rate: Bug wins.

BO Slots for overall damage: Bug wins. The Galor has decent slots, but the Tactical Commander the JAS has is far superior for DPS

BO Slots for defense: Galor wins.

My point is, comparing the two is pointless, they are good at different things. I personally have both, and personally prefer the Attack ship by far... it just moves so quickly and turns so much better than the Galor, and I like having an actual escort. The Galor, in my opinion, while has a decent turn rate, can't take full advantage of that fact because it can't equip decent cannons (DHCs). So it's essentially a beam boat with a good turn rate and worse hull, which is pointless for a cruiser IMO. Instead of asking "why would I use the Galor over a Bug ship", I would ask "Why would I use the Galor over any other Cruiser?". I can't give an answer the that, because I wouldn't take it over an Excelsior. But to each their own

My answer would be:

Excelsior damage potential + Excelsior healing potential + Star cruiser science potential. Think about it:

Engineering:
Cmdr
Lt.

Tactical
Lt. Cmdr

Science
Lt.
Ensign

That's pretty close to being an overpowered combination of boffs. I'm kind of getting tired of people saying "you need DHC or your ship is useless as a combat boat". Good turning isn't only useful to keep your forward arc on target at all times. It's also good for evading hits and keeping your defense stat up.

By the way, have you tried the Galor with DBBs and beam overload 3? Or 7-8 arrays with fire at will? Sure the Excelsior can do that, but the Galor can also have attack pattern beta, tactical team, emergency power to weapons 3, directed energy modulation 3, torpedo spread and fire at will all going at once and turn into a DPS monster.

I'm not saying DHC are required, broadsiding works just fine. I'm just saying, using cannons like the OP said is pointless imo... DHC, HC, BA or DBB are all fine to use, but just a regular cannon? I personally havent found a good use for those...

Cannon + turret like the OP mentioned just sounds horrible to me. But again, to each their own.

As for your last paragraph, honestly I dont use cruisors too much, but can't the Excelsior use all those abilities too? The only difference in terms of BO slots between the galor and excelsior is an ensign engineer becomes an ensign science... personally I prefer the engineer... but all of the other abilities you mentioned work perfectly fine on an excelsior as well as a galor, so I still dont see a reason to use the galor over an excelsior (though I'll be happy to hear how that's wrong...)

Though you might have a point with the DBB + BO3... with the turn rate, might be fun...

They are both fantastic ships in their own right.
