2 of the same kind of ship

I'd like to buy two fleet escorts. It's not currently possible in game for whatever reason, and I know that, but I hope that I'm not the only one who feels this way and that this thread will generate some interest in that. At the very least, maybe someone has more information on why you can't buy two of the same ship than what I was able to find by searching the forums and Google.

Speaking of Google, I found a thread from way back in 2010 where this was already discussed and it seemed to get a little nasty toward the end. To keep from rehashing that, I'll just say this:

1) I like the turn rate, tactical and engineering slots available on the fleet escort, and there's no other comparable set up on any other ship.

2) I don't want to pay EC every time at the ship tailor when I can have two paint jobs and hulls/nacelles/etc, one on each version. Same for weapons - I can boost polaron weapons with the Jem'hadar set on one, and put my borg set with phasers on another.

3) I know the time sink was an important factor in the thread you see on google, but as it is set up now, I'd have to go to a base to change ships anyway - whether it's one FE to another or a FE to a cruiser. I do not want to insta-change.

While I'm not against the idea, I guess I just don't understand it.

Do you want a specific look for each set? I see most people just carrying the extra gear in their inventory and swapping it out as needed.

Asking to buy a second ship of the same type seems like a very reasonable request, it's certainly not broken as your only ever going to be in one at a time.

I know you can't currently do it, I suppose I don't see why you couldn't. Personally I think its pointless, but I'm, not you, lets hope they allow it.

Well we can change character costumes with the click of a button, there's no technical reason why we can't do it with ships too, but I guess it represents a major engineering undertaking akin to the Enteprise being tarted up for TMP. As far as actual setups go though, I also run my Fleet Escorts according to the situation, and just carry the spare i my inventory, although both my Fleet Escort users do have big inventories because of their being relatively old.

Possibly due to the way they structured their database.
If there's a "ship" table and the table just tags which ships are "unlocked" (user owns) then it would not be possible to "check" a field twice.

That's just an educated guess though.

I guess I'm confused too. Do most people only stick to one ship per toon?!? Do most people keep ships that are low level, despite knowing they can dismiss them and buy higher tier ships?

The Fleet Escort I have is a Maelstrom with a few Dervish pieces, but I also like the all-Hermes look. To switch between the two looks on one ship is not a small investment of EC. Do most people stick to one ship and resign themselves to infrequent changes?

On my main toon, I own a Fleet Escort, a RSV, an Adv. Escort, an Assault Cruiser, a TE Refit, and a Runabout. I swap out ships depending on what's needed for the mission - Cruiser to tank, Sci ship for CC powers, FE for tanky DPS, AE & TE Refit for "tour the galaxy" or other speed needs. Sometimes I want another FE that looks different but still has that "tank-mage" feel to it.

Outside of another cruiser or science vessel, I have to go to lower ranks if I want another escort (Yes, even at the C-store. It's so sad to see that big blank spot on SpiderMitch's graphical chart where another Admiral-level escort should go.)

Could you not also fly a Defiant Refit as well as an Mvam.

I count 4 end game Escorts Currently.

No, I have multiple ships, kept some of my old lower level ships.

EC is so easy to get it's not much of a concern, and I configure my ship the way I want and leave it at that. Maybe a small tweak here and there.

Feds have 4 Escort choices at Tier 5, 2 Free, 2 Paid and a rumoured incoming Andorion ship. And you think they need more? Yes most Fed ships are Cruisers, because that is what you see mostly in TV shows. You want to complain about big empty spaces look at the Klingon chart.

I did not say I want more. I said I want to get two of the existing ships at the same time. I want a Hermes class, and a Maelstrom class.

I should have been more clear. There are no comparable escorts at the Admiral level *with two tactical, two engineering, and one sci station.* I apologize if I misspoke. Bless you if you are lucky enough to own the Jem'Hadar Bug, it's the only exception I can think of off the top of my head.

Allowing two of the same ship seems reasonable. This would expand ship choice exponentially. I don't understand why that seems pointless?
