Omega, Maco or Jem?
I just recently started STFs.
Am running an excel refit, with mark X Jem space set
I got my first bit of Borg salvage to get either the Maco, Omega
Deflector, or should I just go for mk xi Jem set ?
Thanks in advance
Excelsior? So DPS Cruiser... Don't do Elites in it.
Tank Cruiser 3p Borg MACO Shields
Flow Cap training DPS Cruiser 2p Borg 2p Omega, or 3p Omega, the Anchor is super useful.
Polaron DPS Cruiser 3p Jem'hadar
To get help you need to provide information, what are you trying to do with the ship? What weapons are you running? What sort of skills do you have?
3p Omega is a fantastic ability. Stops turning and reduces defence by 50%
3p MACO is useless, It's a 3m unbuffed Quantum Torpedo.
4p Borg, Hey a Tractor beam on a long cooldown.
I run a Gal-X, (so this would also be considerd a DPS Cruiser?), on Elite KA for example, I can kill the entire Right or Left side, and get the gate down to about 15% Solo before the 15minute timer, If thier is no place for a DPS cruiser then it is certaintly not in Elite KA, I can also solo tank the gate permentally wihtout assistance at point blank range.
3p MACO is not great, but the Shield and Deflector are the best for a Cruiser, use this in conjunecion with the Borg Engines + Console to get 2, 2set bonuses and with the right set up on BOffs / DOffs you become almost unkillable.
I'm quite close to be able to perma tank a TCube as well, just need to get a few more bits and I think this is possible.
Dreadnought is kinda in a class of it's own there, it's frontal DPS is comparable to an Escort, heck probably exceeds quite a few of them. You can even run a DHC turret build on it and it'll work.
But I've ran quite a few all cruiser Elites lately and while everyone did the right thing we lost the optionals.
I'm also taking it he's a beginner with little gear so the DPS required to keep up with even a half arsed escort just isn't there.
Perhaps I was a little rude there, But I believe Dreadnoughts are far more viable in this role than an Excelsior, Odyssey, Star or Assualt Cruisers.
Heck a Klingon Vor'cha or Negh'var is far more viable as a DPS cruiser than an Excelsior simply due to weapons loadout.
Am I a noob, absolutely, i make no mistake about it.
My weapons i am slowly getting polarons but will change to Antiproton eventually.
What i want to be? I'm not silly, i know Cruisers arent DPS, I'd like to be a tank and support dps for things like the raptors, probes in certain STF's
I am at this stage saving for the Borg pieces, but i do need a go between. Once i hit VA (which isnt too far off, I'm 47). I will either upgrade to the Oddy or perhaps go for the MVAE. I do personallly like the survivability of the cruiser compared to the escort.
In fact ive never touched an escort yet. I dont try and do super dps, that isnt my job. A support DPS is my job.
I am happy to list my BO's and current gear (yes i know it will need alot of work and i won't graduate to elites until my gear is full XI EDU or tech pieces)
W4ankers who do elites with sub Normal gear, really do nothing but screw it up for others.
Before I received a Galor I was enjoying this in STFs:
Front Weapons: 2 Borg Phaser Beam Arrays XI & 2 Borg Photon Torpedo Launchers XI
Rear Weapons: 2 Borg Phaser Beam Arrays XI & 2 Borg Photon Torpedo Launchers XI
MACO XI Shield
Engineering Consoles: Antimatter Spread, Point Defense System, Electroceramic Hull Plating XI, Neutronium Alloy XI
Science Consoles: Biofunction Monitor XI, Field Generator XI
Tactical Consoles: Assimilated Module, Phaser Relay XI, Photon Detonation Assembly XI
Devices: Red Matter Capicator, Subspace Field Modulator, +Scorpion Fighters, +Turret
Commander Engineer BO: E-Power To Shields 1, E-Power To Shields 2, Aux To Structural 2, Boarding Party 3
Lieutenant Engineer BO: Engineering Team 1, Boarding Party 1
Ensign Engineer BO: E-Power To Engines 1
Lieutenant Science BO: Polarize Hull 1, Hazard Emitters 2
Lieutenant Commander Tactical BO: Beam Array Fire At Will 1, Torpedo Spread 2, Torpedo High Yeild 3
3 X Green Projectile Weapon Officers - Reduces Recharge On Torpedo Weapons
1 X Blue Maintanance Officer - Reduces recharge On Engineering Team
1 X Purple Flight Deck Officer - 33% Chance To Double Number Of Boarding Party Shuttles
*The only weakness in my book are the Borg boarding teams.
Phased Polaron Beams are fine for Tanking with if you have specced into flow capacitors. The 2 procs cripple your foes nicely. If you don't have Flow Capacitors than it might be worth looking at something else. I'd go Antiproton although the Plasma Disruptors are nice. Hull fire and a debuff. The Phaser proc just doesn't seem to work against the Borg for more than a split second.
That being said, Mk 12 Antiproton you buy with the Prototype Salvage would be the highest damage.
Yuck, two rear torpedos? Or even... two forward torpedos on a cruiser? That is honestly 3 too many torpedo launchers. You want Quantums if you use torpedo skills, since a buffed quantum does a lot more damage than a buffed photon, photons are only effective for leveling, or a torpedo boat, which yours is not.
I mean, think about it, how often is the second rear torpedo firing, versus if you had a beam array there? Also, with your build, at least half of your total weapons are useless when either facing or broadsiding an enemy. Facing head on, you are wasting ALL rear weapons, when broadsiding, you are wasting ALL your torps, so best case scenario is you are at 50% efficiency. I suspect you spent too much time "lining up your shots" as it were.
Compare that to how I run my cruisers, with all beam arrays and a torpedo launcher, usually quantums. I get my 1 launcher in there for good damage with spread/high yield, but the real damage is a 7-beam broadside, when used with FAW and a DEM or something, it can clear a half-dozen probes very quickly, all while facing the direction I want to move in after they are dead.
