Ship for PvE - Which one?

So I hit 50 not too long ago and promptly bought a dreadnought, but I am having second thoughts and was wondering, have I made the right choice? I do mainly, if not exclusively STF's. I am a Tactical Officer, and im focusing on DPS, what would be a better ship, any ship, c-store or not is fine, I wouldnt mind buying another.

Thanks for any help.

People are saying the Excelsior retrofit and the Multi vector ship. :)

But I think for PvE and normal STF the default ships are more than enough. For elite stf all 'free' ships should be able to hold on their own too provided they have good weapons and equipment. If u want to buy c-store ship I think u should buy the one that u like most.

often times in this game people are so focus on the end that they forget to enjoy the means. ;) It's playing time afterall not working time :p

Is the multi-vector that great? it looked alright, I was just wary as to how the other two ships would function after I had detached.

The ship doesn't really matter. Setting up a ship and knowing how to fly it properly is all you need to do elite STFs. If your question is "what should I buy to do stfs?" then the answer is whatever you like. If the question is "what should I buy to do great damage?" the answer is any type of escort. The differences between them are very minor. Some people like the extra engineering slot for the fleet escort, some people like gravity well on the MVAM. Any escort should get you more than enough dps to make up the slack for other people in the stf, elite or not.

I must add besides buying whatever u like most buy whatever u think you're going to enjoy most playing.

the Multi Vector ship received many praises and people think it together with the Excelsior to be the best overall Federation cruiser in game.

I don't like the look of either very much. I tend to look Excelsior more favorably but I do believe the multi vector ship would give me more damage per second.

But then again I bought the dreadnought for nostalgic reason so I can relate to TNG. Not sure having / buying the Excelsior would be wise as I'd have TWO great cruiser instead of just one. Might go with the multivector but I must say I favor / appreciate the Excelsior more since it is a cruiser. Oh well for now I'm content with just the dreadnought for my Federation toons.

Im told the multi vector doesn't have toggle to rejoin their sections. Other than that people generally love it for their tac and science toons mostly while the Excelsior I heard is great with tac and engineer toons.

I use the Defiant R on my Eng toon and Excelsior on my Tac toon. I actually prefer the Defiant because I am quite a skilled pilot so, for me, the extra DPS I get by loading up as a gun boat suits my style of play.

I guess it depends on how much you are into tanking.

The console on the MVAE is removable, and in some ways the BOFF seating is better than the Advanced Escort.

Well, considering loads of players in STFs just sit in the way of weapon fire I don't reckon it's much a boast. :(

You made the right choice, in my opinion. A Tac officer in a Dreadnought with escort setup i.e. Phaser DHC + Quantum torp fore, Phaser turrets rear, with properly associated consoles and bodda skills, can out-dps everyone in STF's except the occasional exceptionally well set up and skilled escort captain, as long as you're bringing a certain amount of flying skills to the table as well and are using keybinds. I routinely farm back-to-back prototype borg salvage in elites with this setup, and am generally pumping out about 30% - 35% of the overall dps in any give STF elite pug (for the record, I can send parsed combat logs to anyone who requires confirmation of this).

The only issue with the dreadnought is that this setup does not translate well to pvp, where you're better off switching over to all beam array + torps, again with the properly associated consoles + skills.
In addition to the Galaxy-X, I fly an MVAE and more recently a Defiant-R. I find the escorts translate better between pve and pvp with any given setup, and by far my favourite between the two escorts at this point is the Defiant retrofit. It's a tossup between the Defiant-R and the Galaxy-X as far as which is my favourite, they're both a blast to fly with a proper setup and each takes very different tactics in order to be effective. The MVAE is, in a word, meh.
