Respawn Penalty Timer

I understand the fundamental of having the respawn penalty in gameplay. No really, I get it.

Unfortunately I played a match that was inherited from another group that had botched it up. Upon entering the action, I saw spheres running a muck, nanite transformers still online, it was a disaster. The team made a decision to try and mop up what the previous team left behind rather than take the 1 hour penalty for leaving.

The team that came in with me tried to make the best of it, but the dazzling explosions of SF and KDF ships was amazing. Almost as amazing was the 75 second timer till respawn that was in front of me. I had seen timer penalties increment in bad matches before, but 75+ seconds? Other players claimed to have seen 115+ timers?!

You developers understand that you are literally taking me out of "playing" your "game". Along with my 75 second waiting period, you gave me the opportunity to think about just closing the game and going out to that area with the blazing ball of light in the sky (my tribal leaders had once called it 'outside'). Is that the goal of the timer?

This specifically was the reason for my leaving that last MMO. I want to "play" the game, not sign in then get stunned / slept / feared / sheep'd for 15 seconds then wait another 60 seconds for the respawn to occur.

Keep the penalty in there, but lets consider a cap to it. How about a 30 - 45 seconds cap?

why I refuse to run elite

I agree the Death Penalty Timer is a bad idea. It has not done or even come close to what it was intended to do, which was make players think before they just run in shooting anything and everything.

The Death Penalty Timer needs to be changed back to the way it was and hopefully at least it will be nerfed sooner than later.

This Death Penalty Timer has done the one thing I said it was going to do and spilt the STFers into two groups Elite and Newer STFers. Iíll go and do an Normal STF Queue every once and a while just to help the newer STFers, but with this new Death Penalty Timer I do it a lot less often, but this past weekend I entered the queue and joined Infected, Cure, KA Ground Normal, and about twenty minutes later the team finally filled up.

Before this Death Penalty Timer was put in place a Normal STF team thru the queue system would fill up every few seconds now on the weekend it takes twenty minutes. The Death Penalty Timer is killing the queue system. I will not PUG an Elite STF anymore and this past weekend while I was queuing for a normal STF I was watching all of them Elite, Normal, and the numbers of users in all STFs in the queue system are down a lot.

If the Death Penalty Timer isnít reverted or a least nerfed in a little while Iíll be surprised if anyone even uses the queue system anymore except the newer STFers that donít know about the STF chat channels and the private fleet actions, so the queue system will be full of people that donít know the STFs and have nothing but bad experiences going thru any STF.

From what I saw of the queues (a lot this weekend) the queues were popping as quickly as usual. The only thing I noticed was that the queues were full of new players judging by their performance and ability to not die whenever a Cube looked at them.

I will admit that this weeks performance in STF PuGs has finished off any enthusiasm I once had for Elite Space STFs but that had nothing to do with the respawn timer and everything to do with the multiple fail PuGs last night. At least on Normal I'll get a single EDC with each run.

Come ON..............

I do better in pugs then a team made of my buddies, not because of skill or communication, its because its the same guys and same tactics that may be tried and true but end up failing for some reason, i get the gang together once in awhile but normally i PUG, so know we got to go through this timer before we PLAY! Come Cryptic the goal here is to have as many people slugging it out with the server as possible. I make most of my friends and fleet members by playing :) and Cryptic is KILLING that and it needs to quit, STF's have become not only a turkey shoot but a social area for players to meet, half of the Klingon faction players i have in my friends list that i hang out with and im a Fed comes from the STFs. SO FIX THIS!!!!!:mad::mad:

I fly a defiant R and it doesn't take much to blow one up in elites. No matter how careful I'm being, there is no getting around that it's just a matter of time before a cube/sphere decides to take you out.

And when your doing a lot of DPS you get targeted even more.

One shot kills are common in elites too. So c'mon! Give us a break cryptic! It's not like we WANT to get blown up!!

It just happens, no matter how carefull you are.

So don't punish us for flying escorts!

They looked down to me in the US EST. Normal STFs used to pop every few seconds this past weekend was different then the usual. PUGged (Normal) three times this past weekend, once it took 15 minutes to get team full, the next time it took 20ish minutes, and I don't remember how long the third took to get started, was talking to a friend on Teamspeak and didn't pay attention to the time.

Probably the difference. The queues are fairly slow in GMT/ BST anyway so I'd not notice a change unless it was a major change.

EDIT: Nothing like those times though, I think the longest I waited was for KA Space and that was only three or four minutes.

I've noticed the EliteSTF channel has taken a downturn in activity. Significant downturn. Used to be you'd drop in see teams being built for each STF... now... you're lucky to find 2...

Thats because a lot of STFers have left that channel and only use it occasionally. The over advertisement of the channel was its down fall. It's still a good channel to get STFers, but it is in no way as good as it used to be.
