First time playing PVP and WOW

Hi Captains,

This is my first post and i thought i had better write one after my first venture into PVP.

So i run an engi odyssey and i have been getting bored of running STF's all the time so i thought lets try pvp. I played two games, one arena and the second was capture and hold.

First game i thought not bad our team lost 15-13 but i enjoyed it. My healing was the highest of both teams and i thought yup this is wot an engi should be doing. Then came capture and hold..we were decimated, didnt get 1 cap and i was being ripped to shreds. The game finished and i ususally say my customary good game in chat to everyone, but this time i didnt i went a bit further. I said good game and added that it was my first time trying it. Left the game then i got a private message..."here we go" i thought, im going to recieve some msg like learn to play the game, your a noob etc etc.

Well i was pleasently suprised by the message as it was from someone on the other side congratulating on a good game and if i need any tips just ask. So i did...cut a long story short for thenext hour he helped go through my build and explain stuff like stacking consolest and doff powers to utilize my carrier to be a real force..His name was "Beiber" and he was part of the sad panda cubs (i believe).

So i would like to say a big THANK YOU to him and to all other players who take the time to help other fellow captains out and to show there are some really decent ppl on this game, not morons who constantly complain and abuse other players (STF).

So THANK YOU for the time and you sir are a gentleman and a scholar......thanks

welcome shanksboy. Gald you are having fun in pvp, and are part of the fresh blood we all hoped to see with F2P.

As an Eng healer, I have to warn you though, healing pugs when you know what you are doing can be rather frustrating. Get just one guy on your team, et voila you ll be having much more fun and helping your team.

I m glad that the savage beasts that are the pvp community, have greeted you with kindness. Have fun with the cubs, once i get back into pewpew i m looking forward to fly along with ya.

As for "gentleman and scholar" no matter how many alts you make Biebs, we all know you are a moron in clever disguise

I've tried a few PvP matches too recently, and was pleasantly surprised.

Was pretty interesting - I used my second toon (Tactical) flying a Sao Paulo, fitted with MkXI heavy dual antiproton cannons and MkXII Quantum torpedo launchers. First match I managed to take down a Sovereign and a Fleet Escort, but the team I was on lost 13 - 2.

... and we were congratulated for a good game

Second attempt the PuG I was with came up against a pre-made and they wiped the floor with the lot of us - no-one on the PuG team I was in scored a kill and it was 15 - 0 to the pre-made.

This time I took the initiative and acknowledged their massacre of us, and how well they'd played. Also made a friend subsequent to the match, discussing how good the pre-made team was and how playing PvP with a (pre-made) team, or with the fleet you are a member of, enhances the experience.

Third time, with another PuG, tried Fed vs Klingons, which was superb - we lost, but it was a very close 8 - 7.

All in all was pretty surprised - and the absence of the standard STF-type drama queen's raging about noobs, and telling everyone what they're doing wrong without advising them how to do it correctly, was refreshing too.

Have to say, too, that reading ship setup advice on these forums proved invaluable. Okay, my ship wound up as a rather unimpressive explosion a few times, but I, personally, don't think that it did too badly.

Contrary to common belief the majority of PvPers really do want new players to have a good time and play well. For most STO PvP vets the fun is in the challenge. New players who grew up on the PvE this game offers really don't get a chance to learn how to really squeeze the most out of their build. Then they come onto PvP get curb stomped and storm off to start a "Nerf This Thing It is OP" thread or not PvP again. Unknown to those who strom off the PvP veterans did not get a chance to really use what they know about their builds or even do what they really want to do and that is use team tactics and strategy via VOIP.

The best thing is you saw past what you perceived to be a bad cap and hold match, went beyond your ego, and reached out.

Bieber is not a Panda Cub, (I am), Beiber is a Sad Panda who, (among others), wanted more challenge from more teams and helped to start the Panda Cubs with the notion of training new PvPers so they would in turn start new fleets, or at least PvP teams within a fleet they are already a member of.

Count yourself lucky that it was USSEnterpriseZ, (Bieber), and learn all you can from him, Havam, 4monkeys, Mancom and all the rest. Add PandaCubs to your chat options so you can team up and pew pew.

Welcome and I hope to see you in the battle space.

Oh and since the thread was archived this here guide will be a great place to start. http://denkbassin.de/sto/ Thank you again Mancom, (aka Hilbert), for that thread.
