Fleet Ships

Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think I like the idea of replacing my favorite ship with a ship I don't want. I looked at the list of Fleet Ships that are avialable and I am not too excited. My favorite ship is the Galaxy Dreadnought and I have have it tuned as best as I can get it. Why aren't there a tier 5 Fleet Dreadnought? I don't want another Odyssey, I don't want the Intrepid, or the Fleet Heavy Cruiser escort(Akira), either. I like the fact that they finally beefed up the Galaxy but why is it a tier 4? Why give it more engineering console slots, when it's shortfall is not in engineering but in tactical? The ship lacks in DPS so it needs weapon boosting.

I don't want to waste my money on ships that look tha same as i already have. Maybe the Devs need to add more variety to the Fleet ships. I would only be intetrested if the come up with a tier 5 Fleet Dread. Then I can replace my current Dread with an upgraded version of it.

Yep, and just glacing at the KDF side they definately got more Cruiser Love then Fed for sure. The Vorcha looks amazing. Then again, I fly the Kar'Fi over there, with no FLeet version also so I don't plan on getting any Fleet ships over there.

I did buy the Fleet Heavy Cruiser Retro. Love the Fleet skin, Shiny....Love the looks of the ship.....But, It's $20 wasted for a lesser Cruiser then whats already available. No +10% going on there. I was weak and bought it, had fun for a few days. I mean it looks amazing. Look at my sig. Awesome ship. But, No reason to own it.

Back in the Dreadnought Myself, I plan to buy the Venture Skin finally, I'll pretend thats my fleet version. lol. Been wanting the Venture Skin ever since I got the Dreadnought Eons ago, but I keep Buying the newest shiny over and over. I'm done now. lol

Seriously, other then the Defiant and 1-2 others, the FLeet ships are kinda a Joke. For the kind of grind,PLUS being only 1 Character Unlocks they need a serious boost.

Aquarious "Destroyer"? Nuff said. And I soooooooo want to like that ship....sigh.

Yeah, KDF got the Vorcha. . .but that's about it for noteworthy ships, other than maybe that scourge refit and 1-2 others. The BoPs are a joke, and not worth the time and money that goes into getting them.

Huh? There are plenty of good ships. I'm looking forward to the Fleet MVAE and HEC. Both are minor improvements over the C-Store versions.

Great now the world is going to end.

I agree with alexindcobra, if you are happy in a Galaxy Dreadnought there is no reason to buy a Fleet Ship. I feel the Fleet ships have been handled really badly.

@synthiasuicide, I'm thinking I may get the non-fleet version of the Heavy Cruiser Retrofit, but at the moment I prefer my beloved Sovereign to it for tanking, may try a less practical more fun build on it.

Although I will say there is a reason to own the Fleet Advanced (MVAE) the Fleet Heavy Escort Carrier (Armitage) and the Fleet Tactical Escort (Defiant) especially if you already own the T5 version as it's such a cheap upgrade. I'll go so far to say that if you own a T5 version of the ship and can get the Fleet version for a single FSM, it could be worth farming the Dilitium and converting it to Zen to do.

But yeah most of the other ships are a joke. KDF is just awful, I can get the ships I want Fed side for a single FSM because I own the T5 versions. Not 1 KDF Fleet ship gets a Discount.

The Fleet Exploration Cruiser (Galaxy) is a T5. It has the same BOFF layout that people have been complaining about forever, which could be fixed by making the Ensign Universal. I'm not a fan of the Universal BOFFs but on some ships they just work. And I think a Universal Ensign would work on the Fleet Exploration Cruiser as well it does on the Fleet Patrol Escort.

One thing is for sure...this are not the only fleet ships that will be implemented in the game. Just be patient and give it some time.

i think there will be a fleet ship for everyone. 3 of the ships i want to buy are not in the shipyard yet...but they will be in time. I'm positive about that.

the assault cruiser retrofit is a perfect example: it was seen on tribble...but before it is on holodeck they will bring the retrofit version to the zen store.
maybe same goes for the long awaited galaxy bundle...first we will se it in z-store...then as a fleet ship option.

Actually its looking like the ONLY fleet ships worth getting are the ones that do have a C-Store counterpart. Not sure what they were thinking on the rest of the designs. Not since I believe deep down they want to make money. lol

The Armitage already felt like +1, and it gets fleet upgrade? lol. And thats sorta the problem. Either make them all worthy or dont bother.

Look at the Fleet Galaxy again, its listed as a T4. It also says so on the STO homepage.

Well, my fleet stil just have a tier 1 shipyard so by the time we get a tier 5 shipyard, which would be a long time, they better have come up with the Tier 5 ship I want, or they get no money from me.

I mean really, how many time are they going to keep selling me the Odyssey, 5 versions? That ship is not thet great. Why are they selling us a piece othe the aft of the Odyssey and calling it the "Fleet Destroyer?" Its like government forcing hybrids down everyone's throat when most people don't like them, because they are too small and expensive.

cmdrskyfaller 08-03-2012 07:32 AM

Agreed. The whole fleet ship thing was very poorly thought up.

Players had been asking for lower tier ships to be brought up to tier 5 playability... and in this they delivered albeit at a ridiculous price tag. Why would I bring my tier 3 ship up to tier 5 when it would cost me the same zen to buy a tier 5 ship that brings a unique module along with it? Makes no sense.

Worse, the tier 4 and 5 ships that are fleet ships are also asking for the same price of a tier 5 ship but gaining a meager shield/hull HP amount and all gaining an extra console.. which makes no sense for their ship class (aka, sci ships getting engineering consoles... oh sure, that is SO going to make that sci ship better at its role  ).

As it stands the fleet ships are pointless to get.

A better way to implement them would have been to charge fleet modules based on the tier of ship being raised to tier 5. Aka a tier 2 would cost 4 modules, a tier 3 cost 2, tier 4 and 5 costs one module, c-store ships should cost nothing because the player already paid for the gdamn ship.

The fleet versions should've been modified in their bridge officer setups so that all the boff stations except the CMDR level one be universal. That way the ships retain their role-specific cmdr level abilities locked but the player could almost fully customize the rest of his boff setups. That ALONE is worth a lot more than hp boost and one extra console slot.

..and instead of a new skin coloration option (which is just plain silly) they shouldve added fleet-ship hull/pylon/saucer options to create a greater variety of ship looks.

Fleet carriers like the VoQuv couldve been focused into pure carriers.. removing 1 fore and 1 aft weapon and replacing it with two extra hangars (but still limited to launching 4 wings in any combination).
