Interactive objects... lit by creepy candle flames?
Whats the reason for the addition of these random beams of light? They seem to be more creepy and ominous than any attention grabbing. This seems really foreign and weird looking, I'm not sure if I'm the only person who thinks this.

I haven't done the explore mission where you have to scan the kirk "people eating gas cloud" but I bet it would look much creepier with random beams of light/candle flames.

note: Not sure if this should be placed under art of STO or another subforum, feel free to move it mods

I like it.

It's so that the really really blind people can see them...

It's the only reason I can think of.

Edit: And it looks stupid btw.

Wow, this looks so ugly now.

It's not about being blind, its about being stupid. You can find every interactive object on a map by pressing V. You would only have a hard time finding them if you didn't know how to use your own tricorder.

Maybe things being on fire is less "immersion-breaking" than the gear icon.

(No, I'm not a fan of the flames.)

I agree the new interact flames are horrible.

What are we up to now? 4 or 5 changes to how interactive objects are highlighted? And they seem to be making it worse with each new attempt.

It wouldn't be so bad if we could just turn them off.

The New Interact Effect
So, I logged in today and noticed that there's a new interact effect on things such as banks, exchanges, consoles etc....

Anyone else thinking it's ugly? What happened to the nice subtle one that we had when the game launched? And the slightly less subtle one we only just had....

Yeah, people on the STF channel calls the new effect "the fire". :P

I'm not sure why they changed it, the previous effect was well-liked, it was that interaction (gear) icon that people hated.
