[Common Sense] - Drones have warp cores?

Drones should not cause damage when they explode. They do not have warp cores. Neither should ToDujs or any other short range, short timer carrier pet that canon did not go to warp (aka, danubes, shuttles and other fed ship as well as bird of prey should since they did go to warp).

Matter-Antimatter reaction chambers are the base power source of everything in the star trek universe. Just because something doesn't go to warp, doesn't mean it doesn't have this type of reactor onboard. Reactors of this type would be required to power things like phasers, disruptors, etc.

Even if they only used the Impulse fusion system as a power source, that's a nuclear fusion power source, which could reach critical mass if the ship is damaged during combat.

A "warp core breach" does not require a warp capable ship, the breach is a breach in the magnetic containment fields of the anti-matter containers, causing it to come into contact with normal matter. Resulting in a big ole KA-BLAM!

I think daiouvegeta2 has cover this quite well, but also add this.

What is to say the explosion is just from the warp core, think of the ammunition becoming unstable and causing an explosive effect.

Ammunition being the torpedoes (As directed energy weapons have no ammo). Those torpedoes also use anti-matter (Photons are anti-matter based kinetic explosives), so see my above post about anti-matter causing KA-BLAM! effects.

Drones dont carry ammo... and as drones their power source is significantly smaller and an explosion should do far,far less damage than a photon torpedo. Yet a drone pops next to you and you take the equivalent of a high yield 2 torpedo blast in the face.

That makes no sense.

So, those red streaks flying at you, impacting, killing crew immediately, and doing a thousand or so damage when unshielded hits happen is what again?

Drones still carry at the very least an impulse fusion power core, which is still....a nuclear fusion power core. Which can reach critical mass and explode equal to getting smacked in the face by a high yield torpedo.

Besides, getting hit by kinetic attacks, even warp core breaches doesn't really do anything unless you don't have shields on your ship. Kinetic damage is mostly negated by shields in the first place.
