Risa Defense Force: Work Hard, Play Harder!

Work hard...play harder!

I head up Risa Defense Force, an admittedly small but fun-loving group of players in STO. Whether it be STFs, PvE, PvP, or whatever your need or desire, we welcome all players of all kinds of play styles and play choices.

We're a group of "9-5"ers. Some of us are college students, others have jobs. We may not be on all day, but when we get home and settled down from the business of life we play like we haven't been on all week. Thus our choice of motto ("Work hard, play harder!") and our name: for us, STO is our Risa, where we can sit back, relax, and enjoy all STO has for us.

As such, there are no requirements at RDF. No mandatory fleet meetings (though participation and opinions are encouraged and welcomed), no required Starbase donation minimum, no PvE/STF requirements. You get on, you play the game the way you wish, donate as you can/want, and enjoy some nice company in the process with no stresses about getting kicked for "not doing your part" or anything like that.

Don't let "Risa" being in the name or our philosophy fool you when it comes to our game skill. We have members who are specialized in STFs, PvP, and PvE. We are a Defense Force, ready for any action that comes our way! If you're good at STFs, great! If not, our members can help you get set up and run you through the various missions. The same goes for PvP and PvE.

We have a website: https://sites.google.com/site/risadefenseforce/. The webpage will be our home for news, updates, fleet rules, and fleet structure. (Anyone in RDF can answer those questions for you if you're online, as well).

If you'd like to ask more questions, PM me here or in-game at Joe@entnx00.

Enjoy the game however you see fit. And remember, work hard and play harder!

We would love to provide a home for players who feel the Starbase system takes something away from the social aspect of the game. Join RDF, chat, cut up, laugh, and enjoy STO! Don't let grinding be the only thing to look forward to when you get online.

Arguably, more fleets should adopt this very philosophy.

All that grinding for starbases after all, rewards the individual contributor with.......

(wait for it)

Nothing. You need to grind more to get the really cool stuff. Or pay money in lieu of grinding.

Sadly, we see the majority does not share the same wisdom.

This is the kind of player we are looking for! :)

We are working on a Starbase, it's true. What fleet wouldn't want access to Fleet space weapons or cool upgraded versions of some of their favorite ships? :)

But Risa Defense Force is not all about the Starbase. We'd love to be a home for players to sit down, relax, and chill with likeminded players, and play as they see fit.

Sometimes I don't get done with what I wish I could. But when I'm chatting with my fleetmates about something in rl that was funny, or our personal lives when things are going good (or even when they're bad, where we can show some support), or how awful a PUG in our STF was, it doesn't matter! I'm having fun, and that's all that matters.

If this sounds more like you, please consider giving Risa Defense Force a try. We're small, yes. But we're big-hearted and willing to play, chat, or help in any way. :)

The only thing stopping me from returning to STO is the sheer boredom of endgame play. After concluding that only escorts with huge burst DPS are the most useful ships for any scenario, it kind of becomes a boring dilithium grind.

That and the inefficient patch system this game uses that forces me to use upwards of 5GB per week patching the game and its maps. No other MMO overwrites giant texture archives as frequently as STO, because major FUBARs aside, any programmer or sub-version controller would freeze the 'static assets' early in the game's lifetime and concentrate on patching scripts (which are tiny) exclusively.

And I understand that aspect of things. But what I'd hope to deliver in RDF is not "Starbase GRIND!"

What I'd hope to deliver is more like "I'm gonna run some STFs for MACO/Omega Force gear and I'll donate all the Dilithium to the Starbase. Anyone wanna join?"

Or even "Hey all! Great day today. Let me tell you about it! BTW, who wants to run some PvP with me?"

I want RDF to have a casual atmosphere to it. Will we work on the Starbase? Yes. Will we beat our brains out over it? NO! Well...not unless you want to. lol.

That's the beauty of our fleet: you don't have to do anything. Nothing's required of you to maintain your status with RDF. Just get on, play, and have a good time in whichever way you see fit. :)

If you've been looking for a more social fleet, we're your home. Check out our website (1st post) and let me know if you have any questions. We'd love to be your permanent fleet home in STO. :)

2 qns.

How big is the Risian defence force anyway.

And secondly, can we use the weather control system to rain on the Federation President's birthday party? :3

We're unfortunately at 3 regulars. Real life priorities have taken perhaps 3-4 former regulars. (Which is cool. Real life takes priority. One is having to take care of a family member, for example, as well as work. Another just recently got a job. A 3rd is active in the military).

Secondly...only if we staged a coup against the government. I don't think that'd be good for the visitors and gift shop sales. :p

We may only have 3 regulars, but I swear you'll find some of the most fun players in us. :)

If you want to help a fleet rebuild and grow, give some consideration to RDF.
