Free Brigadier General Ships

i recently reached Brigadier General on my klingon tactical character, im looking for the opinions of the forum users on what is the best ship to get for that rank? i prefer to tank with the ability to have a limited healer ability. and i do a little of pvp and pve.

This is a very broad question. You need to specify a few things. What kind of playstyle do you like? Do you prefer healing/tanking over doing damage/moving fast? Do you do PvP, or are you PvE only?

When you're out of Birds of Prey, you're out of ships.

Here's what the Heggie offers:

All-universal Boffs, excellent base turn radius, and a Battlecloak. (means you can get into, and out of, trouble far more easily than you can with the cRaptor or a Cruiser).

Commander seating
2 LTC seats
1 Lt. seat.

All Universal-which means even without retraining you can fill those spots and be effective-with it, and you can do things FedScorts and Raptors just, plain, bloody can't in PvE or PvP.

WITH retrain/tuning your Boffs and toon, you can be pretty darned effective without being saddled with the cRaptor's pivot point or the sluggishness (and subsequent, desperate, nigh mandatory NEED to stuff your eng. spaces with RCS consoles and nothing but) of a cruiser.

for a ship you're not paying actual money for, the Hegh'Ta is probably the best the KDF really has to offer-it makes best use of resources you're also not paying real money for, has the best handling of the ships you're not paying real money for, and the most flexibility of the ships you're not paying real money for.

Such flexibility is pretty handy to have in, say, Cure Space Elite-the ability to sling around the map, killing Probes and drones, then turn and 'science' that pair of assimilated BoPs/raptors/negh'vars so that the rest of the team can kill them (after you've already damaged the hell out of 'em), to cloak after a pass when the borg-cube's shield icons light up (meaning it's noticed you), thus avoiding damage/drain, the abilty to pack the right buffs/debuffs to be a real, solid asset to your team?

Yeah, the Hegh'ta.

*brought to you by the committee for the promotion of Birds of Prey-remember, "Bird is the word".

Hey, in personal order of preference and what classes to pair with it.

http://www.stowiki.org/Hegh%27ta_Heavy_Bird-of-Prey (Tac/Engineer/Science) (Engineer's and BOP's have a rocky relationship but it works for some people)

http://www.stowiki.org/Vo%27quv_Carrier (Engineer/Science)

http://www.stowiki.org/Vor%27cha_Bat...uiser_Retrofit (Tac/Science/Engineer if you must)

The BoP, is an awesome ship for PVP and PVE, the carrier is fun and will do good in pvp and PVE, and the Vorcha loaded down with turrets and cannons makes Fed cruisers suck in comparison. If you really want a Raptor buy the mirror one off the exchange, it's better than the normal BG raptor any way.

Edit: You probably want the Vorcha if you like being sturdy while still doing average or better damage. Picking up some DHC's for doing STF's a little faster isn't a bad idea if you go this way.

if your adding exchange ships to the equation theres also the Temporal Vessels. the Temporal Destroyer has 2 universal slots and 10 console layouts. so they have a little more flexibility than the other raptors.

I have eng officer... i use Carrier (all of them) i think... the carrier vo'quv maybe not have high fire power but you have pets (if u have any good dof for pets) you already have a good fire power and healing powers!!

Actually i use the follow carriers (depending pve or stf or pvp):
-Marauder Flight deck
-Vo?quv
-Karfi battle carrier

Yes i know... maybe not have a good turn rate but is similar than Botarsq

Good Luck in your decision... if you are an Eng i recommend VoQuv (very fun)

my personal prefrence for my tac toons at 40 has been either the hegh'ta bop or the vor'cha retrofit since u mentioned free ship. since the mirror vor'cha appeared I always pickup the hegh for BG tacs and then pickup the mirror vorcha on exchage was around 1mil ec I believe u swap ur ensign tac for a sci but adds to ur team heals u can throw. :)

good hunting warrior

If you want a tac that can tank a little and do somwhat decent damage you probably want the Vorcha. Use it with dual heavy cannons and crf1 or csv1.

I agree don't get the free qin raptor, if you want to try the raptor get the mirror Qin off the exchange instead for around 1-2 mil.

The Hegta BOP is also great for damage and versatile, but not so tanky but is probably the only other good choice if you don't want the Vorcha.

rodentmaster 10-05-2012 03:11 PM

OP said tank/healing... well the Bortasqu series is the heaviest hull rating, but IMO it is utterly terrible. I have one, and can NOT ever bring myself to use it more than a minute at a time before switching back to everything else.

Because everything else is better.

Vor'cha Retrofit is IMO the best free ship in the game. Put points into your character's starship thrusters skills and it turns well without any RCS consoles. Add tanky consoles, set up with chained EPTS boff skills, and you have leftover ENG slots for healilng skills as well.

Plus... it's a battlecruiser so it takes DHCs up front if you like. And lemme tell ya... Me like!

generaldiaz 10-05-2012 07:06 PM

so basically the consensus is that i should go with the BOP or vorcha refit. of these two which is better?
