Is the Peghqu' Heavy Destroyer worthwhile?

The Peghqu' looks like a Bristol 170 with the doors cracked open. Then you take it into combat and you end up flying around with these huge pillars sticking out of it that are useless for 5 minutes at a stretch.

But has anyone got a sense of how well it performs. Is this ugly duckling worth building out and learning how to use or is it just a gimmick that will quickly lose its somewhat quirky charm.

If I'm going to use it I'm going to want to invest in disruptor weapons and consoles, but I don't want to make the investment if its not going to be an effective ship.

Doesn't impress me too much, turn rate is low for an escort and it only gets 9 consoles. I'd rather use the Fleet Scourge destroyer or Fleet Somraw over it myself.

It's definitely not a cream-of-the-crop ship, but that doesn't mean it's terrible.

Being a heavy destroyer, think of it as a unique Raptor: good turn rate, can equip cannons for massive damage, but also has a couple of unique tricks to it. Plus two of it's Boff stations are Uni, instead of fixed, so you've got quite a bit of flexibility.

It's Regeneration Mode (default) gives you an automatic bonus to Auxiliary power, and your Shields System skill, so you're a bit more defensive than a normal Raptor. Plus you've got the Tachyon Inversion beam, which essentially steals shields off your forward arc enemies, and adds them to your own.

A bit underwhelming in practice, but better than nothing in a pinch. Only works in a 90-degree forward cone.

The Tactical Mode changes those bonuses, giving you more weapons power and a Targeting Systems bonus (meaning you hit harder and more often; always good). Then there's the Lotus ability itself, which after a few seconds charging, fires multiple Disruptor beams.

This ability is a BEAST. It can destroy the weaker ships almost instantly, or at least severely damage them... the only downside is the drain of all your weapon power for a few secs afterward, despite it saying it only drains 75. Hits a max of 3 ships at once in a 240-degree cone, starting from the front.

It's a good ship, even if it's not the best, imo. Both unique abilities above have a 5-min cooldown, so use them wisely.

Sure it is effective in PVE. It does have escort firepower. You do lose out on a console if you keep the special abilities.

The Tachyon ability is fully affected by doffs that affect Tachyon Beams or Deflector abilities. So you may have it available more often, or you may use it as a snare.

It is an escort style ship that you can fit out with high levels of science or engineering, in almost the same manner as a Bird of Prey. And it has Battle Cloak like a Bird of Prey.

But it has 4 tactical consoles, and Ablative Armor can boost the hull to 53k. Birds of Prey don't have that.

I have two characters flying it. Really awesome

It's not a terrible ship, but neither is it superlative - it does have some good things going for it though - namely, with that much hull, there is a wider margin of safety when using battle cloak. The console it comes with isn't bad either, but I feel it eats up essential console space.
Seems to work pretty well as a standard 4xDHC escort (Comm tac, Lt comm tac, Lt Eng, Lt Sci, Ens eng) but there are many ships that can do it better.
Universa Lt comm and Ensignl bridge officer slots do allow for some customisation, I personally haven't explored the other potential variants of the ship.
Turn rate as I recall is a bit worse than a Raptor's - base rate is 14, compared to 15deg/s for the Qin. 3 RCS can bump it up to a respectable turn rate.

In short: it's a less maneuverable and much more durable BoP substitute.
It's not worth buying the lifetime subscription by itself, but it definitely is a nice perk on top of the other veteran rewards.

I have to say I do enjoy your videos, nice to see some good previews of ships!

I found ot fun for plinkering in Ker'rat but it fell short on me in a Arena

Not proof the ship is bad, as I may suck, but I do feel my Fl Somraw would have finnished the kill shots.

Love that battle cloak though.

dontdrunkimshoot 10-14-2012 01:34 PM

has the potential to be the best escort, but about 90% of builds turn out terrabad, it will get schooled because its turn rate is so low by other escorts, you have to play it like you would a kdf cruiser...
