Universal Engineering Setup
 
Confused by the Title? That's probably my fault (semi-intentional) though allow me to explain.

With season 7 soon to be released, and with that, even more grinding I figure it would make sense (for the time being at least) to concentrate on a single character rather than multiple. As such, I have decided to do just that; with an Andorian Engineer.

I'll be working up to commanding two ships, the Assault Cruiser and the Mirror Star Cruiser (they're the same design, but obviously differently set up, one having an Ensign assigned to Science over Tactical and vice versa). In addition to those, and to make the most of my Engineering field (and Bridge Officers) I'll also likely be getting the Patrol Escort and Deep Space Science Ship; both of which utilize the Engineering slot of Ensign and Lieutenant over limited dual Bridge Officer slots for other powers.

My question, taking into consideration I don't want to be buying 30 odd slots for Bridge Officers, what skills are best to use here? I figure I'm looking at three Tactical Bridge Officers (x2 Lt. Commander, x1 Commander), three Science Bridge Officers (x2 Lt. Commander, x1 Commander), and four Engineering Bridge Officers (x1 Lieutenant, x2 Lt. Commander, x1 Commander). Sound reasonable thus far?

I've found that for me what works best when doing a generalist build is to have my Engineering BOFFs run EPtS1x2 with Aux2Struct1 and Aux2Damp1 and then run whatever I like in the LtCmdr and Cmdr slots. The two shield heals are nice and then I can get a bit of a turn rate boost or a hull heal and resist buff depending onwhat I think I'm going to be going after.

Be warned though I typically do my generalized builds around a Cruiser/Escort swap, I've not much experience with Sci vessels so somebody may have a better "universal" build for you.

If you're in an ENG cruiser like the AC or mirror SC, one of the best setups you can do is EPTS3x2 + EPTW1x2 (or swapt if you must, EPTW3 and EPTS1, but you're losing a lot here). When shield power is over 125 amazing things happen. Incoming damage is reduced significantly.

You run shields so that you get 125 with EPTS3, dump as much of the rest as you can into weapons, and then chain them nonstop. EPTS3, EPTW1, EPTS3, EPTW1. They allow for constant uptime of shield power along with boosted DPS from beam arrays because you are running higher power levels.

Now, I will say ENGs do have the nice +power-to-all-systems skill, but this has a very long cooldown time, compared to EPTx.

That also still allows A2SIF3, ExtShlds, ET, any other skills that are quite helpful in team healing. Or if you're selfish include A2ID or EPTEngines to help you get around faster.

That still leaves you 1 polarize hull slot, a hazard emitter, and for the starcruiser you can tack on another healing power like TSS with the extra sci slot.

Skillpoint-wise... it'll be tough to buff everything simultaneously.

You'll want Flow Capacitors and Particle Generators for the Science ship, and Threat Control for both Cruisers. Taking "threat control" unfortunately means that your Escort will pull much more aggro than usual, but as an Engineer you should be able to handle it. All things considered, I'd try something like this build.

Out of curiosity, will you be specializing in Threat Control and Tanking and/or Healer roles?

@maelwy5 - Actually based on the BOFF seating for each of those ships he'd only need two of each career - 2 Tac, 2 Sci, and 2 Eng. It's only when he starts adding C-Store ships to the mix that he'll need more. None of the builds are going to be optimized of course, but then if you're trying to play multiple types of ships on a single character that's kind of a given.

That's 3 Tac, 3 Sci, 4 Engineers.

Traits shouldn't matter too much in space unless you really want to go all-saurian, so you could use four of the above BOFFs for your standard ground away team.

Ideally, I'd take at least one more Tactical BOFF for the Escort - to support a different weapons loadout, depending on the situation. The setup I quoted there should at least allow each ship to pull their weight though. (Personally, I'd have the 3rd Tac take both BFAW and APB1 so the Assault Cruiser could swap things about a bit without giving up TT1. The Star Cruiser might suffer a bit without BFAW2 + TT1 for tanking, but TS2 + TT1 is the next best thing).

Again, information appreciated. I don't PvP, only PvE occasionally. I'm not looking to master player combat, only to hold my own when as a team.

I'm specializing in surviving. ;)

Obviously with an Escort I don't want to be drawing in too much attention, but then, when in a Cruiser or Science Ship, I should be able to take somewhat of a pounding (save for when up against overpowered Escorts).


Anyhow, appreciate all the feedback guys (and girls if any are present). I'll get to work on putting a setup together next week; and I'll post the results (with reasons). See what everyone makes of it.
