Any flightsim geeks here?

I am a big flight sim geek...since FS4. Currently running FSX. I built my computer for FSing. I have been trained and licensed in the real world to fly, but it costs so much to keep doing it, I haven't been 'current' for a few years. FSX does help me keep my skills sharp, such as instrument approaches, proceedures, decision making...etc.

For those who don't know, FSX and related flight sims has a big user community with lots of 3rd party developers addons with aircraft and scenery. It can be as simple or complex as you make it. It is kind of like a computerized hobby of model railroading. You build your rig, you build up your collection of airplanes and scenery, interact with it.

Anyway, shout out to any other FSers who hang out here.

Well I don't know how this is Star Trek related but here is my share.

I love proppeler planes, I used to build models as a kid. I play Sturmovik 1946 with the dynamic campaign generator. If anyone looking at this thread wants to fight in WWII with airplanes: google above, it's all you need.

But right now I am more into "flying" disk shaped spacecraft with warp nacelles :P

Personally, the only flight sims ive played are the star wars ones,

Hours of enjoyment playing star wars: X wing, Tie Fighter, and X-wing Alliance (<- such a good game :D)

Not exactly what i think you are on about... but yeah thats what i've played ;P

FSX is old relic junk... pick up a copy of X-Plane, much more versatile in my opinion. You can look around and find modules that will allow you to import FSX scenery and planes, but the current version of X-Plane (also 10) comes with whole world photo-realistic scenery and a nice selection of planes, but there are always expansions to give you accurate scenery.

For controls: CH products Yoke and Quadrant as well as Saitek X-52 stick/throttle and Saitek rudder.

I still consider my FS geekiness to be "amatuer" even though I have considered switching to the Saitek Yoke and Quadrant, and maybe picking up a few of their instrument boxes and MFD's.

FS9'er here. Fleet manager for my virtual airline, and longtime VATsim member. You haven't had fun until you've flown routes for a VA with live weather and live air traffic control.
:D

Am also a flightsim racer- am a team member of the current FS round the world race team champions, sim-outhouse.

Loved FS4! and got my pilot's license from ERAU decades ago, but the Navy and other such stuff took me away from flying. Best accomplishment on FS4 was landing a 747-400 on a carrier. (5 succesful landings out of 25 tries :D )

Lol thats great, I went to ERAU too. Got my wings there.

FSX by itself wouldn't be much fun, but it has lots of life left in it with developers like A2A, PMDG, Realair, FTX..etc. Matter of fact A2A is going to be releasing a new P-51 model in the next few days, should be really really good.

I have done some aircraft repaints. For fun I like to infuse a little trek in some of my paints. This was a personal scheme I did for the A2A P-40. When everything comes together in FS...plane, scenery, weather, lighting, etc...it can be one hell of an experience.

I'm not brave enough to use VATsim... I do like listening to the radio, and watching the ATC screens, but never used it myself... maybe one day.
