3rd Anniversary Ship class!

Okay. To start with I might be in the wrong category :( .
Next. For the 2nd Anniversary we all got a free Odyssey and Bortas, Both of which are cruisers. Now for the 3rd anniversary we will probably get an Ambassador class (Klingon unknown). What do you guys think the ship and the class should be?
In my opinion I think the Escorts need some love. I mean I was waiting for months to get a patrol escort for 80,000EC  . Sci guys got a nice 3-pack Vesta. Same with the Eng, a 3-pack Odyssey and also an Assault Cruiser Refit and Fleet Variant.
Anyways. What do you guys think it should be? ;)

Somebody missed the Kumari memo.

Pardon? I don't quite understand.

I think Escorts already rule the game and don't need any particular love. Plus out of the non-lockbox releases since F2P, its been 2 cruisers (Odyssey, Regent), 2 sci (Vesta, Atrox), and 3 escorts (Armitage, Chel Grett, Chimera). Additionally, the Kumari is coming and is probably going to be a tac-first ship. Lastly, the Ambassador has been on a lot of wish lists for a long time, and seems rather appropriate as an anniversary ship.

The Chel Grett isn't really an escort, it's more of a hybrid of all three ship types. The Chimera also essentially costs $300 ($200 if you catch a sale), and really shouldn't be counted against making more escorts in-game given its staggeringly high cost.

Cruiser captains got the Odyssey 3-pack, and Science captains got the Vesta 3-pack. Both of those ships are also on par, stats and console-wise, with Fleet ships, meaning players won't have to buy them and then upgrade to the Fleet variant (unlike the Regent or Armitage-class ships). Escorts are still out in the cold on that count.

And yet escort captains can get the MVAER and TER from the c-store, both of which are powerful ships, and make it so your FAER and FTER cost only 1 FSM. Also, those ships are pretty much set in their purpose (mass destruction), so I fail to see how one would make variants of them in the first place.

The Vesta and Oddy on the other hand are very versatile BY DESIGN, so naturally they would have variants. Can't really do that with escorts. And as for being on par with fleet ships, tbh they aren't. They are powerful, but a fleet version of those classes of ships will beat those two pretty easily.

And don't worry, your precious escorts will get a new friend soon enough with the Andorian Kumari-class ship.

I would say odds are the Ambassador will be a cruiser, on the escort part well the Andorian ship that will be coming out soon enough is going to be a escort and the Dominion lockbox will odds bring the heavy escort.

They could have with the Armitage. Tac = enhanced torpedo something or other, Engi = advanced hanger thingamabob, Sci = something else I could potentially come up with if it really mattered.

Fleet versions don't exist, though. What you're saying is, if they DID make Fleet versions, then they would be better, which is true... but there aren't any Fleet versions yet.

The Odyssey Star Cruiser (C-Store variant) has almost as much Hull HP as, and a higher Shield Modifier than, the Fleet Star Cruiser. It also has 10 Console Slots, something you only see in Fleet ships. Its stats are pretty much on par with the rest of the Fleet cruisers.

Your argument is that "The Odyssey and Vesta were designed to be versatile, while Escorts cannot be" is flawed, too. They could make a versatile Escort -- one version is tankier, one version has a special attack, and another version has a science feature. Maybe the Science variant of this hypothetical Escort has a special tractor beam or something, I dunno. There are a lot of ways to make a special escort that stands apart with 3 variants, just like they did with the Odyssey and the Vesta.

what are you talking about? they did give us the steamrunner and that ship is almost a copy paste of the fleet patrol escort.
