Do You Play Lock-Box Online?

With this new Dominion lock box coming out(which I am a fan simply because of the Dominion focas - not the lock-box focas) - will you be playing "Lock-Box Online"(trademarking this:P)

Also with so many non-faction ships in the game why do I have to be part of the Fed or KDF?

This makes no sense - I am "buying" a used ship from the Ferengi - which no Starfleet Adm would have to do to get a ship - then I now an independant - I have left starfleet.

Why can't I be a former Starfleet Adm - now retired - trading or fighting for hire or whatever in one of my "used" Dominion ships????

I mean I "bought" a used ship with my own money why do I have to be part of Starfleet or the KDF???

Because it is, in-game, not your money, but simply the budget on which you manage your crew and ship.

In only rarely open lock boxes, by the way, but I have no issues with the system as such. I'd prefer to have the lock boxes drop at a much lower rate, though.

Not true I am making EC by trading in the galactic market - and latinum and lobi - I can hire my own crew to man the "used" ship that I purchased.

With adding so many non-starfleet ships - they have made being part of Starfleet forever - irrelivant.

Cryptic should open up a non-aligned faction!

I may throw a couple of keys into some. I have not spent any of my money on keys in a very long time. Until recently, I have not bought any keys since the start of the Ferengi Box. Not out of some perceived high moral compass or anything, just a lack of interest.

As for the rest of your post, that is the way I play my adopted main character. He was an alien tac officer until he got lucky to get a Galor. I then modeled him into a Cardassian who was assigned to Starfleet as part of a cooperative military program. Sort of an expanded officer exchange program if you will. This background story was then actually reinforced by the 2800 Featured Series.

"Your own crew" is Starfleet (or KDF) personnel. The EC you own are all derived from your service with Starfleet (or the KDF). Not a single Energy Credit is private property. It belongs to Starfleet (or the KDF), you are merely the administrator for this money. It is not your private property.

that's why we need a pirate/trader sub-class then it would make these ships and older fed or klingon ships some sense

Sorry But by making it so that half of Starfleet is flying ships from NON -UFP members - Starfleet has lost all credibility and is nothing like Star-Trek any more - no debating that.

The issue is with all these lock-box ships Cryptic could make a excellent case and take advantage of a Non-aligned player faction.

Hmm... This seems like a cleverly disguised "I'd like the be able to attack people at random"?

dont think it would work that way... cant just attack people at random in a game full of Queue's for everything from single combat to fleet actions.

Actually, I think that could work anyway, as a third faction - independent contractors.

Halliburton and Blackwater and what have you, but in space.

Lower tiers - retrofitted freighter, something like a statistically gimped tuffli

Medium tiers - selection of kdf and fed hand-me-downs (preferably with the option of 'worn and battered' armor style)

Top tiers - Maybe a Ferengi vessel, a selection of KDF/FED ships one can get 'on a long lease' (say, a BoP, the patrol escort, a battlecruiser and a dssv) and the lock box ships all factions can get. Definitely put firm restrictions in, as full access to all kdf/fed ships would be both overdoing it and unrealistic - you don't put your most advanced and powerful tech in the hands of contractors. C-store: selection, mostly (based on) older fed/kdf models. Maybe the Breen ship.

Starbases styled in the vein of Drozana, which would serve just fine as a starting point too.

Then, some minor tutorial and access too most Federation missions, minus the black ops arc, seeing as one wouldn't use outside contractors for that, and the FE's. Can queue on both sides in PvP.

Wouldn't require a lot of new assets or programming, would introduce a whole new flavor.

*shrug*

Not going to happen, but an interesting thought experiment.
