Make cheese consoles need to be specced into?
This might be a good way of bringing balance to some of the worse cheese consoles and such out there: Make these require skills to be specced into to be useful.

A good portion of them already do this, like any of the 'weapon' consoles: Isometric Charge, Disruptor Auto-cannon, PDS, etc.

Other consoles include ones like: Plasmonic (buffed by Flow Caps), Graviton Pulse, Magnometric Overload, Photonic Displacement, and so on.

Not all consoles have to be made like this though, such as Saucer Seperation. That is just basically summoning a pet and making your ship move faster and all that, not really cheese or anything.

I dunno the exact skills that could be made for each console, but here's an example:

Take AMS. Make it need Countermeasures to be specced into to be useful. With no points you might have it last like 2 seconds, but speccing into it would make it last like...15 seconds or something.

As a separate or combo idea with the above, give some consoles, abilities, and pets a hard cap. Plasmonic already has this, so it wouldn't be anymore changed as it is now, but say...Graviton Pulse, maybe it can only last for so long, even with speccing into something it can still often times be a little ridiculous.

I dunno, maybe it's a good idea, maybe not. Just thought I might toss out something. It'd be a nerf in that a LOT of folks who have ships full of 'toy' consoles and those consoles won't be doing as much all of a sudden, but still be useful, to those willing to focus their build a bit more.

I know it's not really helping remove cheese or anything from PvP, but I felt it was at least worth bringing up. Better to make people actually spec and look for 5 seconds at their build, than just let it all only be a free for all of AMSes and the like.

I like the idea very much. This way people can use the consoles they like (for the visual effects, for the combos they like to do, whatever), and no one can say it is cheese or p2w cause it'd require full specced config to work.

But surely I someone is using a p2w build the 500 zen to respec is nothing to them when they've just payed 5k zen for a vesta pack or 400million ec for to JHAS

I like this very much, but i fear most cheese and spam users will complain their case and say they spent money on it, and thats all jusitification they need.

Well, people spend money on its ships, and they need to spec also.

I prefer if engineering / science and tactical consoles would all be great, so equiping one of these consoles would have a significant opportunity cost.

If there are consoles such as +4 power to subsystem, nothing will change.

Presuming that using a console will be enhanced or negated from points used in character respec is not a good idea from my point of view as :
1.) There is enough spam in P.V.P as it is now. Creating possibilities to increase spam level would generate player grief and finally would mean increased costs to cryptic to mend the mess.
2.)Some class will be able to do much harm with these consoles as other classes so again =>complaints =>dev's will have to fix things =>complaints
I say better leave everything as it is now (good or bad) and developers should concentrate in season 8 maybe finally everybody will get something good from new season.

mustafatennick 02-01-2013 04:27 AM

That's the problem my friend the devs keep bringing new stuff out and leaving the old stuff bugged, op or just plain broken

Come on, you really think that Cryptic thinks for a minute on the impact for PvP? This game is thinked for dummies that finds difficult the STF's so they release super consoles to make them even more easy, not for a little PvP arena that this game has and nobody plays.
