I realized something terrible...

If we get a new Romulan faction... The devs might make it so you need to have T-5 ROM REP completed....

Extremely doubtful if its an actual faction. If the devs are deciding to remove the barrier for playing a KDF character, then such restrictions will not exist in future factions. If Romulans are a level 50 faction, then they could restrict it to needing Tier 5 Romulan Reputation.

However, a Romulan faction would make more sense in having nothing to do with New Romulus except for what the Captains decide to do. A Romulan captain could level up Romulan Reputation and might have a few dialog changes due to being the same race, but New Romulus might be considered as a group of cowards by whatever Romulan government forms. Have some doubts about a Romulan faction since the outcry by introducing a new faction without finishing KDF would be enormous.

I doubt it.......

I think you'll have to do the reputation grind. Just like in LOTRO, you can be a lorien elf, but your faction with lorien will start at 0, just like anyone else. It's kinda stupid, but it's for gameplay sake.

Also, there is 2 solutions for a Romulan faction, either it will be a 3rd faction, probably not related to New Romulus, and you'll have to help them, just like feds or klingons did. Or you'll start as a New Romulus member, and join either KDF or Feds, and have to help because you are part of a larger faction.

I'm sure you'll have to grind, don't worry !

Not that hard anyway ... 2 hours of chasing bunnies does the trick ... what's more frightening is, how they're gonna implement FE's with 3 Factions ... it's already kind of silly in some Missions, playing as KDF ... not gonna cry doom now, but this might be the death of "regular" Story Content ...

I got T5 Romulan rep two months ago, so your terrible realization is an awesome one to me.

Other than the fact its actually not that hard to get to tier 5, i see no reason why they would do this at all.

no doubt, if it is a romulan faction, it will be tied to the c-store in some capacity as its a free game so they have to. why would you then block the content off and a source of income off by a time wall?

i know they added some of the missions to the rep system, but that a quite a different thing, as they are small. an entire faction that would attract a lot of players, old and new would not have that kind of restriction

Come on, doing Romulan STFs would still be Marching Under The Raptor's Wings...

I bet that's what we're getting. A head on fight with Sela. Which is a cutpasta of the Donatra fight.

do you really think they would advertise an stf fight 4 months in advance, with teaser videos and its own web page?

it may not be a faction, but if its content it will be significant.

I don't think it would be tied to the C-store. They tried that with the "Adventure Packs" for Champions Online.

The result was that the Adventure packs sold quite poorly, so they simply unlocked everything into the main game and set it up to emulate STO's Feature Episodes.

I have 3 predictions how this will go:

1. Full 3rd faction, similar to the current KDF (i.e. only unlockable if you have a Fed of a certain level, starts at Level 20 or 50), with a full tier 3-5 ship progression featuring Rommie designs. IMO this is the least likely, but if it happened I wouldn't be surprised.

2. A Romulan Lockbox/C-store debut, Playable Race Unlock, and Feature Episode set (which may or may not be restricted to Romulan Characters). This would be the simplest to implement, but given that they're teasing it like it matters a lot more implies that the work will be more indepth than usual. If they plan to actually sell this, this is where it will happen.

3. An exclusive "semi-faction" with a new "Starter/Home zone". Players will create a Romulan Character of a certain level and proceed through missions exclusive to Romulans, with a tiered set of Romulan ship progression or choices, but end up "aligning" with the Feds or the Klinks when they get to the endgame. Rommie ships will be added to the selection of both factions, but may or may not be exclusive to Rommie characters. Feds will finally get ships with battle cloaks, and KDF...BIG ships with cloaks? Can't remember if Neg or Voquv can cloak. But D'deridex can.

I think #3 is the one that will happen. It's more in-depth than a Feature Ep or a Lockbox, but is less work and risk than debuting a whole new faction with all the hangups that entails. Furthermore, it adds Romulan ships to the rosters, which have been heavily demanded.

And even they don't debut any original, 25th-century classes, the rommie ships fit perfectly into the class trinity. Bird of Prey is a BoP, Mogai is an Escort/Raptor, and D'Deridex is a fat cruiser/BC. Maybe they'll add a carrier type to hold Scorpions, though I doubt it will be a Scimitar (sorry guys). Maybe something that LOOKS like a Scimitar, but smaller and not a dreadnought.

Lastly, there's also potential for a story there. Because the Star Empire is cast as an enemy in game, it might make more sense to debut the character as a New Romulus officer. Both the Feds and Klinks are courting them, so it's possible that the New Romulans would join up with either.
