Wells Vs Vesta / Sci
I need some help.
I enjoy flying my Wells class, but I feel in ESTFs, I'm FAR more effective in a Vesta than the Wells due to the DPS increase of Aux cannons and that there are seem to be only three useful Science abilities in a ESTF.
Here's how I've been running my Wells:
Front: 2 Polarized Disruptor Beam banks (Acc, CritH on one and Acc x2 on other) MkXII, Omega Torpedo Mk XII
Rear: 2 Polarized Disruptor Turrets - (Acc, Crith) Mk XII, Borg Cutting Beam
Eng: Borg Assimilated
Shield: Borg Assimilated
Deflector: Borg Assmilated
Eng: Tachotechnic Converter, Isomectric Charge, Neutronium Mk XII (blue)
Sci: Assimilated console, Field Generator Mk XI blue), Particle Generator Mk XII (x2, one blue and one Purple)
Tac: Disruptor consoles (Mk XI blue x3
LT Universal : EptS1, Aux2Struct
Lt Commander Universal: TT1, BFaW2, APB2
Ensign Eng: EPtS1
LT Sci: HE1, PH2
Commander Sci: TSS1, HE2, TSS3, GW3
How can I change this up to make my Wells useful in a ESTF? I've tried swapping around consoles and going more with healing the escorts, but they generally die to cubes or the gateways faster than my heals can keep them up.
Turrets use cannon abilities so that's one issue. Switch to Beam Banks or just go for Single Cannons. Also, since sci ships have AUX bonus, what kind of power levels do you have set up on your ship? I noticed that on my Vesta Class I use 50/50/50/50 across the board and ave 84/74/74/74 on power levels.
Are you an eng/sci/tac btw?
Your saying to drop the Dual beam banks and Turrets and go to straight Beam Arrays?
I'll check my modified total energy again when I get home, but I run base 100 / 25 / 25 / 55 when trying to damage something, then swap to 100+ Aux for healing and back.
DBBs and turrets is viable for a sci ship, because of the subsystem targeting. Multi-target DPS will be a little lower than if you went for single cannons and turrets, but you lose out on the subsystem targeting (I just accepted that and ran cannons, but it's a personal choice thing). Definitely don't go beam arrays, you lose out on a lot of damage and all your ability to achieve good positioning (you have to broadside for beam arrays, but have to face forward for most Sci abilities).
I would say you're probably overloaded on heals for STFing. Unless you're in a really good premade with all kinds of special tactics, when one of the big enemies decides someone on your team is going to die, they're going to die, every heal science can manage notwithstanding. Extend Shields might possibly help, but I'd be hesitant to give up A2SIF. Whichever way you go, I would definitely drop the PH for something offensive, maybe Energy Siphon (as much for the bonus to your power as for the enemy debuff) or TR (mainly because it locks down the heavy plasmas from its target).
But in all honesty, you're not going to get a Wells to perform as well as a Vesta in PvE. The Wells' advantage is that it can pull some nasty tricks every few minutes and is very agile. That's great for PvP, or so I hear, but for PvE the Vesta's straight constant damage output is far more important. Of course, if they ACTUALLY MADE SCI ABILITIES WORTH ANYTHING (ARE YOU LISTENING DEVS?) that wouldn't be the case, but as it is the Vesta dominates, even with people who use it as an MVAE instead of a sci ship.
i use Romulan Plasma DDB at the front and Romulan BA in the aft. Go fig I use whatever enhances plasma damage (2pc Romulan set, 3 pc Omega set for plasma torps, 3 MK XII plasma infusers).
My current setup on the Tac Vesta Class as a Joined Trill Engineer
Fore: 1 MK XII Romulan DBB, 1 MK XII Romulan Experimental BA, Omega torpedo
Aft: 2 Romulan BA MK XII, Borg Kinetic Cutting Beam
Tac: 3 MK XII blue Plasma Infusers, Zero Point console
Eng: Tachyokinetic Console, MK XI blue Neutronium Armor
Sci: Borg console, MK X Romulan Shield Emitter console (adds 8.9% plasma damage), MK XII blue Shield Regen console, Fermion Field console
Lt. Cmd (Set to Tac): TT1, BFAW2, BO3
Lt. tac: TorpSpread 1, HYT2
Cmd sci: PH1, HE2, TSS3, GW3
Lt. Eng: EP2S1, Aux2SIF 1
Ens (Set to Sci): HE1
