Can we get rid of captain trained only skills please?

I see them as an unnecessary hassle.

At first I had no problem with asking someone to drop everything their doing to come meet me some place and train my boff in a skill only players can train. It made it feel more 'mmo'.

But, as more time goes on, it just gets frustrating and feels like a stupid game design. These are people you have to ask to train you're officers and most the time, they're busy doing their own thing, and the rest of the time they forget you asked. Add on top of that the potential for theft and that it's forced interaction (I loathe being forced), it can quickly become a frustrating headache.

I know someone will say it's not 'forced' blah blah you can just gimp yourself and use the lower rank version of a skill, but I see that as proof of the problem. I also can't always ask someone I trust because I never trust someone in an mmo 100%. And the entire act of asking makes me feel like a nag.

Hey can anyone train my boff in blah blah?
Hello anyone?
Stop what you're doing and train my boffs please
...Okay it's been 2 days, can anyone help me?

Yea no thanks, I don't much like being a bother to people. I humbly request for an alternate method.

Agreed.

Currently, I'm playing with the idea of having [my girlfriend/father/cat/dog/psychiatrist/alternate ego]* set up a second account on my old laptop, so I can have one of my 8 alts train these skills for their co-alts. So far, that seems like the most convenient and safest route.

*not sure what the EULA says about multiple accounts; clearly I wouldn't ever break such rules.

Yes and also make the skills that only come with boffs that already have them like torpedo spread 3 and others trainable too. Remove useless skills like APO2 or GW2 since nobody really bothers with these since you can get the 3 version at the same rank.

I beg to differ. Captain only trained skills are one of the few things that help keep the careers separate. And those differences also allow some captains to have advantages in certain areas. For example, one of the few things that allows Engis to keep Tacs in sight when it comes to damage is EPtW3. And so on and so forth.

No, we need more class diversity, not less.

Are you dense ?

Allowing people to train their Bridge Officers in more powers actually increases the diversity by allowing them to train MORE powers.

The Bridge Officer training system sucked from the beginning but now the game has an increasing amount of untradeable officers so you cant get them trained even if you have friends that can train the skill without a lot of unneeded hassle.

People like you argued against Cryptic streamlining the skill system so that you didnt have to specialise in a specific type of ship because it removed Diversity.
Turns out that doing that allowed people to fly all kinds of different ships when they liked rather than have to respec every time they wanted to fly a new ship. It also increased Cryptics income because now people have more incentive to fly new ships.

Doing the same with the skill system will allow people to fly the new ships effectively. The Profession trained only skills are a relic of the old skill system that needs to be removed.

If a Tactical Captain has skilled into Emergency Power skills then he should be able to train the Emergency Power to X III that goes with it. Likewise if an Engineer has skilled into Weapons, let them train their officers in Cannon Rapid Fire III

No, we need no class diversity at all because we never needed arbitrary classes in the first place. All Captains should have access to the same powers and the ship should be the arm that strikes with the fury of those powers.

What about the possibility of them making something like holo training chips like they did in SWG for Astromech training

Give people the ability to buy either by Dil or by C-Points a pack of Training Holo Chips
Captains can "train" or programme the holo chips much like they can with Bridge Officers

They can then be traded or sold on the exchange to train Bridge Officers up in those skills as some BO can not be traded and so cant be given certain skills from other captains or if its a slow day they can grab one from the exchange in whatever skill they want.

To me, it's mainly the abilities that can only be found on boffs that present an availability problem. The captain trained ones aren't half as hard to get with a good group of friends.

Fully agreement here.
I see this case exactly like you do and i wish the devs would finally make captain only trainable powers availlable to the BOFF trainer NPC.

I think it's just annoying and a unnecissary risk to hand over your BOFFs to some completely unknown player.
Especially if you just want to test something new for example. I think game mechanics like that are an relic of the early years of MMOs, but thats just dead weight IMO. No one needs and no one really wants stuff like that.
So as i already said, i completely agree with the OP.
