Idea: Elite PVP Mode

So I was thinking: The starship damage mechanic from elite difficulty is actually pretty neat, and it would be cool if that could be an option in PVP.

But of course there would be a question of how to implement it. Obviously all those injuries could get really annoying and increase the opportunity cost to play those sorts of games- but in game they could easily just be ignored by players with lots of components.

So I came up with an answer for each.

1. All your PVP ship injuries heal at the end of a match.

2. Your PVP ship injuries can't be repaired by components like PvE injuries can.

Thoughts?

The Elite death injury mechanic was a neat idea, but ultimately is more annoying than anything.

The current UI for healing injuries requires too many menus and drop down lists, the components don't cost enough for there to be real detriment.

On top of this, the places in the game like Elite STFs or as you suggest PvP where this mechanic would be used, death can comes too easy and too frequently for this to be anything more than a negative impact on fun.

I know you want to remove the healing during the event mechanic, but that's an even worse idea that what exists now.

Player A on Team 1 is quickly sized up as the weakest link, the more you kill him the easier it will be to kill him as he incurs incurable injuries each time you kill him that make him even weaker.

We already have an elite PvP mode, it's when two teams are formed ahead of time with optimized builds for an optimized team comp.

How about hardcore mode. You die and you lose your ship and everything you own and have to reroll.

Not being accusatory, just seeking clarification: Was that a troll or a serious suggestion?

The point

Your head.

The idea behind injuries in pvp is that yes, absolutely, it punishes you for dying. It's not about the game being 'harder', but about making the game interesting. Having a temporary penalty for dying that a player can't just remove or make light of for the duration of the match could add to the existing pvp paradigm.

Right now teams absolutely focus on the weak link, destroying that player over and over again, while doing their best to stay out of the guns of the other team members- but with a system that inflicts a match duration debuff onto an enemy, suddenly there's incentive to get your game on and take out the stronger players- as every death will weaken those players for the duration of the match.

Why wouldn't they keep shooting the weakest link? Afterall it gets weaker everytime they succeed.

I'm afraid that such a system could lead to games where the first kills decide the match and once you are 4-5 kills behind, you can just give up since there is no way to turn the thing around with all the death penalties on your ships.

Mancom is right. However...

I could imagine using the ship dmg mechanics for something much better. Every crit in pvp would yield you a battle dmg like when you die in PvE. Hence even trough all those passives and heals, there would be some attrition. This would be repaired after you have spawned.

Engineering team could repair some of this battle dmg during combat. Crew mechanics could be used to repair battle dmg as well.
