Reducing the learning curve for pugs
The biggest thing Cryptic could do to help PVP is to drastically reduce the learning curve for people joining the PVP community.

This could and should definately be the drastic revamp STO PVP needs.

1. Toggle distrbute shields (same way as auto fire)

2. Generic skill tree prests based on simple questions (with option to set like it is now)

3. Empty auto activate tray for abilities (same as auto fire) - no need to create bind files

4. Voice over Telling you "Player 3 sub nuked"

5. Commander's / Squad Leader's target being sent in chat (Like other chat optoins) instead of necessity to bind

What else could go on the list?

Load screens with relevant information like "Don't Full Impulse into fight" or "Is your chat window open? Your teammates need to communicate with you!" instead of Cryptic fanfic about Captain Data.

One thing I'd like to see is Cryptic giving out cookie cutter configs for ships that you get when you first acquire a particular ship type.

Like, when you get a Escort you end up getting a PvP-tested build with proper boffs and some relevant doffs instead of leaving it in the hands of the user.

I think Cryptic said that they are going to try to introduce saved configs for ships in the future, so maybe that could tie into that.

Lawdy, lawdy......the game is going to Hades in a grocery cart. The time has come for me to *gasp!* agree with a Panda!! I know, I know....saw a pale horse, and on it's back, sat a Merc with a Taco and a.....Mexicany....hat...thing...round...with the balls dangling off...YOU KNOW WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT!!!

Seriously though, Naz has a point. I can get behind what he is saying. Especially the "Basic Skill Tree/Advanced Skill Tree" thing, where a player can choose their "basic" role, and then, when the player feels comfortable with it, open up the "advanced" skill tree. Kinda like when you customize your toon or ships look and have the option of "basic" or "advanced" choices. The only information about PvP today is given or generated by the players/veterans, and that is through primarily the forums. PvP Boot Camp has done an excellent job of spreading basic information, but so much more information can be learned or conveyed with a bit more descriptive tool tip or a tutorial of sorts, with "copies" of some of the PvP strategies that are in common use today.

All in all, more information needs to be available to new players in all aspects of the game, more so in PvP (other than TOOLTIP: ARENA: First to 15 wins! / TOOLTIP: CAPTURE & HOLD: First team to reduce opponent's resources to 0 wins!) That information needs to come from two sources, and the primary source SHOULD be from Cryptic, with the players guiding, informing and supporting newer players along the way.

I've got to agree they need to out more work into the information side of things i tried to get 2 real life friends into sto

And they came and they were like what does this do and that do and there's nowhere to point them and then end game pvp is literally you get thrown in at the deep end and just hope you can swim

Then nine times out of ten (especially fed side) your absolutely screwed because getting a good pug is nearly impossible from what I've seen playing kdf it's almost always a no return win

I definitely support the skill tree introduction and the leader targetting and we need saved setups desperately

I've brought this up before and it's a fantasy, but it's mine.

Tiered PvP. Get into a tier 2 ship, queue appropriately, and you are scaled to fight at a lower level. For new players it would be slower with less options, for new players it would be fun to see old ships and enjoy a change of pace.

I'm on the fence. I see a bunch of new PvP'ers already convinced of their god-like status from battling the non-threat PvE further emboldened by a game that does their homework for them.

They're still most likely gonna get slaughtered even with all these helps.

I'd like to see more informative tooltips for buffs and debuffs on ones own ship/character/teammates and opponants. Hovering over a buff/debuff just for a tooltip telling me what its CALLED (until I am familiar with what its DOING) is of limited use in the heat of battle.

Everybody gets slaughtered at first. And the effect will be the same, some people will hate it, and some people will hate it enough to want to get good at it so they can make other people hate it.

For the ones that take up the challenge and decide to HTFU I really wish the information was more readily available. Like, can you slot 1 or 3 of this doff? Is the effect modified by consoles? Etc. Cause for things like that you often just have to buy a few of the doffs and try them out, so if it's something pricey on the exchange it is beyond the ability of new players.

I'd like to have an ability where the team leader is able to mark targets (kind of like a big animating red crosshair on the focused target). These days with the current carrier and mine spam it can get hard to click on the focused target (although now that tric mines have been fixed and they are less of a threat I could possibly turn the view pets option off in my HUD).

[EDIT] Not thread relevant but has the idea of a minor 4-5 second immunity to additional subnukes after you have been subnuked ever been brought up? Getting subnuked 3-4 times in a row sends me into a keyboard throwing rage haha.
