Warbird class. Forrunner to introducing Warp Cores into the game?

So Romulan ships aren't listed as Sci, Tac or Eng but it's own class: The Warbird. The warbird its suggested capability is tied to the singularity core of the ship.

How on Earth is this going to work? And is this the forerunner of the suggested idea of introducing various Warp Cores into ships to increase their flexibility. Myself who is mainly a cruiser captain is cautiously optimistic. By having various swappable/ modifiable core types Cruiser sized ships may finally be able to ramp up their turn and weapons power far greater than they are now.

Speculation?

well the fact warp cores are already on Tribble doesnt change anything..

Well the Romulan faction ships arn't up yet on tribble are they. Plus they never release everything at once on Trib. (However I've not been on Tribble for the past several days so i could be wrong)

What did you see on Tribble?

Try reading the tribble patch notes. All vessels now have slots for warp cores. Romulan ships have singularity cores instead. Not M/AM like Fed/Klingon vessels.

Warp cores are already out for testing on Tribble. Both matter/anti-matter for Fed/KDF and singularity cores for Romulans.

They come in a wide variety, allowing you to tailor your ship to your liking. You can read more about them here.

Yeah, reading the descriptions of the singularity cores gives you an interesting insight into how Warbirds work. :)

This begs the question whether current or future Fed/KDF ships will follow a similar setup, of not being an "Escort", "Cruiser", "Science" ship.
