1st clip from Star Trek into Darkness

Well this is an interesting clip. Go have a look, and see if you know where they are. Meaning the crew not Spock. :D

Ok, here comes the first nitpick.

If they are so concerned about the Prime Directive... why are they attempting to prevent the Volcano from erupting in the first place?

TOS several times repeated the claim that survival is always preferable to extinction. It really wasn't until Voyager and Enterprise (release chronology, not in-universe chronology) where suddenly standing by and allowing extinction was the sacred duty of Starfleet.

In TOS, the Prime Directive was defined as noninterference in the normal development of a viable pre-warp society. Extinction is not viable.

It wasn't until TNG that the Powers That Be decided that the Prime Directive forbade interference in any other society, even in a situation like the Klingon Civil War (not exactly a pre-warp society...).

Worf's foster bother Nikolai and his band of villagers, Picard deliberatly letting a planet full of people die for the prime directive as the planets atmosphere is eradicated. Sometimes wonder if the Cardassians were more brutal or the federation!

Alternate Universe - alternate prime directive? Quietly saving a culture vs irreparable damage to their natural development? Seems simple to me - stun the entire village, save Spock, get away.

Then again, hindsight is always better ;)

I'm just interested to see them underwater; it's a cool addition :)

Considering that the ship is constantly prepared for the vacuum of space, with shields, structural integrity fields and such, they can handle being underwater with the right preparations. It would strain systems more because of the pressure (both water and depth), but it's not out of the realm of possibility, especially in a fictional technobabble series.

Even if the technobabble is more in the background for this reality lol

I saw the first nine minutes from the previews in front of "The Hobbit". I am seriously pumped for this movie.

I am just over the moon to have Star Trek back. Set in TOS era but with updated visuals and a quicker pace, hell yes!

But the haters, their nitpicks and whining about what is or isn't 'Trek' make me ashamed to call myself a Trek fan sometimes. Lighten up folks.

For those of us who are without minutia hangups or some imagined idealistic viewpoint of what is official but rather enjoy Star Trek in it's various incarnations, this looks to be one heck of a fun ride!
