[UPDATE ON PAGE 4!] Community STO Meet-up in London, England - Saturday, June 22nd
[LOCATION ADDED! INFO BELOW IN SECOND POST!]
Thought I'd separate out and make a dedicated thread to work out where would be good for the London people to meet up, since choosing this sort of thing in so big a place can be tricky work. Scotlanders and Hollanders, feel free to do the same!
Anyhow, what I thought would be a good idea was for those of us wanting to go along to say what sort of thing we want (e.g. cheap, near a mainline station, Italian, that sort of thing) - and then someone who lives in London (or Google) can decide where to meet, and pass on to Brandon for a thumbs-up.
To get the ball rolling, I'd quite like somewhere that won't break the bank, particularly if people are doing food as well as drink. Near a mainline station would be handy - if it's Victoria, even better.
[LOCATION ADDED! INFO BELOW!]
Please reply here if you are going to be able to be able to make it to the London meet-up on Saturday, June 22nd. Let's plan for this to happen at 6PM local time. Feel free to come later and leave when you'd like -- I will probably stick around until 10PM or so :)
Also, please reply with any ideas for where would be a good spot to grab some food AND can accommodate a (potentially) large group. Here are some suggestions so far (I didn't include pubs as I'd some players may be under the age to enter):
Hope to see you there!
Reminder! Everyone will need to pay for their own expenses.
This just in... the location!
We're going to be meeting at Wetherspoons at Leicester Square -- this location looks like it had the most support in this thread.
Time: 6PM local time (sharp, please :))
The Moon Under Water/ Wetherspoons
28 Leicester Square
Directions: Tube: Leicester Square Station
Let's meet in front of the entrance -- we'll eventually move inside (or sit outside), so look for the group :) I won't have access to phone/ internet/ twitter service, but we'll make sure to stay either at the tables outside or inside.
PM me on the forums if you have any questions before the event begins. Hope to see you there!
You do realise that Rezzed is on at that exact weekend?
I know that I and a few of my RPS fleet members are meeting up there at no specific time.
for more information, see www.rezzed.com for the event and www.rockpapershotgun.com for the fleet. (though we organise over the forums: www.rockpapershotgun.com/forums )
Bran - how about Wetherspoons at Leicester Square - that's a bar/restaurant and very family friendly.
In the UK in bar/restaurants like Whetherspoons underage are allowed in as long as they keep to the restaurant area. Also to remember drinking age in the UK is 18 not 21 as it is in the States so I don't think there will be many issues with under age players.
Just a suggestion!
'Spoons in Leicester Square sounds like a very good idea. I will endeavour to make it, but you would pick an expensive month...
On that topic, can this be done on a regular(ish) basis? That would make it easier for those of us needing longer to plan for booking days off work and/or saving money. London's not cheap; it'll cost me ?20 just to get the train from where I live (in Medway), and it's only 45 minutes to Victoria.
Those touristy areas are generally overpriced though (not that London isn't overpriced itself anyway...)
Are there any estimations as to the amount of people expected?
I'd like to put my name down as a high maybe - I have been booked in to do some overtime at work on that Saturday however it is possible I could be there for 6pm!
Using a pub for a venue
As an ex landlord of a pub in London, i can tell you not many will be too happy to have large groups of an unkown entitly decended on their premises, especially in central London where the anti terrorist alert is currently high. A pub will prevent anyone under the age of 16 attending unless they are accompanied by an adult.
Their is also a possibility of very large numbers of people turning up to the event, my suggestion would be a public park. Why not greenwich park, the birthplace of navigation, people can bring thier own food and their is no space limitations.
Those that wish to can move on to one of the many pubs and restaraunts in this historic part of london. Transport to greenwich is easy from any station in london, and does not limit or indeed prevent our younger players in attending.
Brandon, if you have not been to this area, you can walk to canary wharf, after visiting the greenwich observatory and the royal naval museum.
Just my thoughts on it, but i will be attending whatever the location,
PS in the current economic climate, this option is completely free other than transport costs
You know you're going to get a number of people turn up (regardless of which location) only to tell you all the things that you've done 'wrong' by them, don't you? :P
For that reason alone, I will not be attending this one.
