[REQ] Fed Ship - Pegasus Class

STO has a history of taking a ship that did something cool, making its registry the name of a new class and giving it a power that lets it do that thing as a console power (or something broadly similar).

To that end, I figured why not the Pegasus.

I'm thinking Tier 5 Oberth Retrofit. Science ship with new art assets that follow the Oberth theme, scaled up to tier 5.

The ship would come with a special "Universal Console - Phase Cloak" which would be usable on any ship and have statistics broadly similar to other federation cloaks- perhaps a decreased stealth value in exchange for disabling collision while cloaked. This would *not* be a battle cloak.

The Pegasus was the TNG equivalent of the Rapier, a testbed for technologies that would go on to become federation standard- its weapon systems and impulse engines were both experimental and would later form the basis for the Galaxy Class's systems. With this in mind, the ship could be handled as a 'three pack' perhaps, with a tactical/science/engineering focused version that also comes with a different option. Unlike other three packs, these items would be useable on other ships (just as the phase cloak and weapon/engines were later used on the Galaxy class USS Enterprise D.

This ship would also be available to the Klingons, perhaps as a "Kruge Class", named after the captain who destroyed the USS Grissom, another Oberth class vessel.
Might look something like this:

Pegasus Class Science Ship.

3 Weapons fore
3 Weapons aft

Boff seating would be as follows:

CMDR Sci
LTC Sci
LT (whatever the ship's focus is- sci/tac/eng)
LT (universal)
ENS Eng.

So you could get a 'cmdr sci, ltc sci, lt sci, lt uni, ens eng' for the sci version, for instance.

(Tactical version console)
Universal Console - Experimental Linked Beam Array
Useable on any ship.
Activation - increases firing radius of all equipped beam array weapons to 360 for duration (probably 15-30 seconds), enables overload firing mode (sort of like singularity overload).

(Science version console)
Universal Console - Experimental Phasing Cloak
Usable on any ship.
Statistics: Like a normal cloak, maybe lower stealth value, but disables collision while active or provides a giant defense boost or makes your ship non-targetable a la the Karfi.

(Engineering version console)
Universal Console - Experimental Engine Manifolds)
Usable ona ny ship.
Statistics: some +speed, +turn rate bonus, and an activatable power;
Activation - Engine Manifold Overload 'Overloading your experimental engine manifolds causes a massive explosion, and knocks your impulse engines offline for a time'.

Works just like the singularity jump console power, except instead of spawning a singularity that pulls enemies in and damages them, it spawns a warp core breach style explosion and flings you off, granting temporary stealth- but also disables your engines temporarily. Totally in theme for what happened to the Pegasus.

The Federation do not develop cloaking devices, the Tactical Escort Retrofit is basically the Defiant from DS9 it's a one off ship, but hey only 1 in the game would be boring and unfair.

The Gal X was a one of a kind vessel. It was Admiral Rikers Command ship, the Enterprise D massively upgraded. See above reasoning.

In the game the Federation has announced it's long standing belief in not developing cloaks.

If you want a Cloaked ship roll a Romulan or a Klingon. You can have any colour palette you want for UI so done.

Romulans/Lock Boxes will be getting the new ships for quite some time now.

But in all fairness you do have a good idea, instead of a T5 Oberth, make a ship that reminds you of it. The question is would it be equal or better than the Vesta? I'm thinking not so much.

According to "The Path to 2409" the last Starfleet Officers who toyed with cloaking devices (after Hobus) were courtmartialed for it and the president signed an executive order banning cloaks.
So forget the cloak.

While I find the idea of a T5 Oberth hilarious (the ship was the ultimate redshirt after all) I'd be very interested in a science ship of a different kind:

One of the design concepts for the Pegasus before they decided to use the Oberth due to budgetary concerns looked like a Nebula built out of Ambassador parts.

Since we have both the Ambassador and the Nebula, why not this ship as well.
Throw in a dorsal module and voila a new science ship.;)

The Nova class was to replace all the aging Oberth class vessels and we already have a fleet Nova. Great ship. Almost as tanky as the Wells.

While I can kind of get on board with the idea of a ship somewhat like this, surely they couldn't call it the Pegasus class. That would be akin to naming it the U.S.S. Watergate--surely they don't want to remind people of that. ;)

I can possibly see a updated Tier 5 Oberth Retrofit as a high-speed scout sci vessel with the speed of B'rel and the HP of the Nova Retrofit with a Phased Cloaked console (Only used by Oberth types) that unlike the Defiant/Galaxy-X, it can cloaked at the same time while any hostile weapons fired at it will miss, but the phased cloak itself should have a limited duration and a 3-5 min cool down time.

The stats i can see for a possible Oberth Retrofit

Hull: 2400 to 2750
Shield Mod: 1.3 to 1.43
Weapon Slots: 3 fore, 3 aft
Crew: 80
BOff: 1 Sci Com, 1 Sci Lt. Com, 1 Tac Lt, 1 Eng Lt, 1 Uni Ensign
Consoles: 2 Tac, 3 Eng, 4 to 5 Sci
Turn Rate: 13 to 15
Inertia Rate: 70 or 80
Bonus Power: 15+ Aux

In my opinion since the Oberth class is a small Science vessel, i think it should be most likely used as a hit & run or as scout vessel that can detect cloaked vessels in the game.

The Pegusus is in game per say as it was just a Oberth Class Science vessel. Now if you can get Cryptic to do a T5 version with a phase-cloak console...;)

I find it hilarious all you Fed Players are so desperate for a cloaking ship, but won't just roll a character who has full access to many cloaking ships.

CBS the License Holders do not want the Federation flying T5 Connies, Cloaking Fed Ships, and other old classic designs at the top level of the game. If the License holder says no than your simply not going to get it.

Doesn't both a Romulan ship and the Klingon Kar'fi have Phase cloaks?

I LOVE the Oberth class and it's circa 1930's streamline moderne reminiscent styling! It's my favorite ship. The nacelles remind me of the towers of the old Pan Pacific Auditorium (remember Xanadu?):

I only wish there was a higher tiered version to own and more thoroughly enjoy. Even if was only at tier 3.

I guess I can still dream.

You know, if they *did* ever add an Oberth Refit/Retrofit with a phased battle cloak, I'd find it very interesting if ending the cloak while clipping through something would cause damage to the ship. To enemy ships as well as your own if ended while phased through one. Extremely risky, but potentially very rewarding, as well. Players would have to keep track of where all the collideables are when their cloak ends, so that they can make sure they don't end up like the Pegasus.
