Sell me a ship (from the current line-up)!

Hi there, this is partly a sincere question and partly an attempt to satisfy my curiosity as to the most popular KDF dps boats.

I've got this KDF tac, that used to be an alpha vaper and did pretty well in pvp, at that. At some point, after practising a bit, I was up to a success rate of 60-70%, even on the bigger Fed and cross-faction hulls.

And then LoR went live. Though the widespread use of proc heals and passives started a bit before that, LoR forced people to become more aware of anti-cloak tactics and also added some more defensive powercreep, placate and DEF stacking, plus Romulans and their boffs. Long story short, I now have much more trouble getting clean kills (down to 30ish%), and was wondering whether this was the moment to switch ships.

So I'd like to upgrade from my B'rel retro, to a ship that's maybe a little sturdier and can provide some more damage output (preferably spike).

I've got KHG set, Elite Fleet Core, fleet consoles, the Rep +crit consoles (except for the tachyo console, which I'm unlikely to get) and access to T4 shipyard. Also got Kar'fi, B'rel, Guramba & Marauder unlocked from C-store, as well as event Kamarag retro and Obelisk. Furthermore, got some EC's to spend and looking at over 800 lobi by the time the lobi event's over. Also have a selection of doffs, including technicians, but excluding AP cooldown doffs.

All 3 rep tracks sorted and specced thusly:
Romulan: Precision, Sensor Targeting Assault (sorry about that one, people, I know it's cheap and regret it)
Nukara: Enhanced Shield Penetration, Aux Power Config: Defence
Omega: Omega Weapon Training, Sup. Shield Repair

Regular Tac spec plus 9 in Thrusters, 6 in PrtG, 3 in GrvG and 5 in Subspace Decompiler.

I would prefer to keep access to Gravity Well 1, for No Win Scenario, but am open to suggestions. I've got the fleet Norgh on a different character and like it's potential a lot, so I think that's my choice to beat, atm.

TL;DR:

So. What do you guys think would be the best choice for an offensively minded tac with an eye for flexibility and a certain amount of nimbleness (as in, base turn minimally 8-9, preferably over 12)?

For a slight edge, have you consider upgrading to a Fleet B'Rel Retrofit? You don't need to have access to your own T5 shipyard; I think that if someone in a Fleet who does have access invites you to their starbase, you can purchase from their ship store using your own Fleet Requisition supplies. (I know that is at least true for all the other equipment stores.)

In terms of Cruisers, unless you're into really big ships - the Bortas'qu in this case - the Fleet Tor'kaht is the way to go, thanks to its LtCom Tac BOff seat. However, the Bortas'qu does have the most flexible BOff seating of all KDF Battlecruisers. I own a Fleet Tor'kaht myself for my Alien Engineering; while it doesn't have the huge Alpha that a Tac captain could get out of it, it can comfortably put out very respectable DPS when armed with DHCs (eg. If there are no escorts in the team in ISE, I'll usually be carrying the most DPS).

However, after re-reading your post more carefully, and looking around the Wiki, taking into account that you'll have 800 Lobi to spend, I'd seriously consider the Krenn Temporal Destroyer. Tac-heavy, nimble, and it has the critical Universal LtCom BOff seat. I can't claim to own one myself, but I'm fairly certain that the Temporal ships are favoured in the PvP arena for their sheer flexibility.

The only thing you can't get from another fleet is a Fleet ship since they are purchased through the shipyards and not fleet star bases. Though you can quit your fleet and possibly buy one from another fleet by paying them what they want and joining their fleet with the relevant shipyard.

Well, after reading what you wrote I guess the following recomendations are in order:

Fleet Hoh'sus. Yes it's ugly as sin and I personally would never fly it because of how it looks, but just in case you don't have the same feelings on the issue, it's a solid upgrade from the B'rel Retrofit in terms of spike damage with the 4-th tactical console and retains the standard BoP flexibility you're used to.

Fleet Norgh (Ning'tao). It depends on your playstyle really, but with the aditional Lt.Cmdr Universal Boff slot you have added value to play around with more diverse builds, that may ease getting a clean kill a bit. I know number of people using this one in PvP with great success.

Fleet B'rel. You may just want to upgrade your B'rel Retrofit. I know that it's gated behind T5 fleet shipyard, but there are several KDF fleets that have offered their help and services on the forum if your fleet is not there yet. If you decide on this, you may want to try the NoP Public Service channel, they're pretty helpfull there and I guess by now they have access to a T5 fleet shipyard so they may allow you to use theirs to get a Fleet B'rel.
With this fleet version you basically get your increase in stats and get a silly aditional engineering console slot, but just throw the Rule 62 console from the Lobi Store there if you're into torp boats, something that is the B'rel's speciality. Or you can just put any of the universal consoles there. It might not be as usefull for DPS as an aditional tactical console, but the B'rel is a Klingon classic close to our hearts and the only KDF ship that can do things while cloaked.

Now, before I go on, since you are a BoP pilot, I'd say don't give up on the Birds of Prey just yet. They're still arguably the most fun KDF ship class to play with and you're probably do a bit better with a fleet BoP than the C-Store B'rel. But most importantly - S8 reputation has the offensive powercreep as an answer to the defensive powercreep you mentioned. So I hope this will help with getting a kill as well. And you can also count on some of us to bug Cryptic about improving the BoP until we drive them insane and they decide to do it. lol :D They buffed them once half a year ago, it could happen again.

Fleet Somraw. It's a good raptor, you'll have much more survavibility than a BoP and it also has the famed 4-th tactical console, so +1 from the B'rel that might give you that extra oomph you're looking for. Also from what I've heard from players that have one, it doesn't suffer from the borked pivot as much as the Qin Raptor.

Tor'kaht & Fleet K'tinga. Worth looking at if you want a change of pace. I don't know your preferred playstyle, but if you prefer tactical with potent alpha strikes these choices may not be the best for you. However, you said that you have the limited edition Kamarag Retrofit, so I'd advise playing around with her a bit more to see how you like it before you decide on spending resources on a fleet battlecruiser.

Lobi Stuff. I'm going to be honset here, I don't like to fly non-faction specific ships. That's why I can only recomend the Krenn Destroyer like starblade7 did. It's very Klingon in design and I love it. I got myself one recently and I personally enjoy it very much. While it lacks the cloak and the alpha decloak potential, it packs a hell of a punch, handles really well and is a great ship overall with admirable flexibility.
If you have the extra EC to waste, you may want to give it a try. As to the surplus lobi you're expecting.....well I'm gonna' tell you what I plan of doing with mine. I'm going to unlock every single costume option for KDF that I don't have on my main Klingon character. If Cryptic won't give us proper C-Store uniforms to buy, I might as well get their lobi ones for free. :D Since I've got the only lobi ship I wanted that would be my choice. You can browse some of the consoles as well to see if you find something you deem worthy.

Hope this was helpfull in any way. :)

For a fed or KDF, the temporal destroyer is a great option, especially if you can afford the temporal warfare set. That set has good synergy with antiproton weapons, puts out a mean tricobalt, and prior to season 8 has the only energy weapon that can deliver a chroniton debuff. The 3piece set ability is also gangbusters. The gimmick console is nothing to write home about, though, compared to the temporal science vessel's. The Krenn also looks pretty great.

This thread was written exactly for you :) . You will make up your own mind based on your favourite criteria.

I think the choice is complex and I suggest a process of elimination. Deciding between the Jem'Hadar Heavy Escort Carrier and other ships is not difficult. If you like a single hangar pet with escort capabilities, there is only one optimal ship. If you don't like the JHEC, consider the S'Golth next. It's "Aux2Batt-ready" and doesn't waste the ensign slot like so many ships. If Aux2Batt doesn't inspire you so much as a specifically Klingon look, watch the Krenn carefully. If you still want to look at other options, you will have to decide between the Hoh'Sus and the Norgh, which is a fairly difficult choice :) .

Lots of ships there... Don't take the specific consoles too much into account, they are fun toys but you will replace them soon enough by classical consoles.

Good stuff guys, thanks so far.

I really should dust off that Kamarag and try it one of these days, see if I like the play style, in relation to the Torkaht.

Other than that, that Krenn does look promising (and aesthetically appealing). I'd wondered about it before, but wasn't sure yet. I'd probably end up doing something like this (3xDCE and 2x Conn doffs), on that one, potentially with a BO instead of TS or APB+CSV's for PvE. Got a while longer to think about that one, with the Lobi event both giving me enough lobi and potentially dropping the exchange prices some. I like that it has more than 10k more base hull than my current ship, as well as a shield mod that's .25 higher, at the cost of the cloak and some turn (while leaving plenty of that).

For decloak/BoP play I could always get the fleet Norgh as well, I suppose - nobody said it should be either/or :) It IS a very good ship and BoP's ARE awesome... Fleet B'rel, might be more worth it for my sci - I currently use the Enhanced part of the cloak mostly to pop HE's under cloak :p

Fleet Kamarag will get you base turn-rate of 10.5 deg/s and has Lt Cmdr sci boff station. You can move the uni to Tac and get 2x TT1, 2x APB1, and BFaW1 with DBBs, or some other silly combination. Its not going to be a good scatter gun ship, but very flexible overall.

My main is an eng and I've found this ship to be perfect for any situation.

http://sto.gamepedia.com/Tal_Shiar_A...Battle_Cruiser

The universal command seat makes it very versatile, it can cloak, use dual cannons, has sensor analysis and a a beefy shield rating. Two new features have made this ship better, the cruiser commands and the fleet armor consoles with built in turn ratings boosts.

You might like this but it might be tricky to get.

you know something must be wrong with a faction, when the most recommanded ships are lockbox ships.
no 5 tac console ship, and no 5 forward weapon ship

i'd personally go for one of the 2 tal shiar ships, or the temp destroyer

i have 3 KDF toons and i use a guramba still on my tac, a tal shiar destroyer on my engi and a breen cruiser with my orion sci.
