We're really screwed by this DPS crap.

I'm finding the only way to get good items is fleet action. Mission rewards suck and there's not enough of them. Now that people have gotten their Escorts I'm seeing people with 4 times the DPS of the next highest person. During beta the only chance I had to get good gear was to mine turrets for DPS, now not only does this not work as well (like they cut the dps down or something) but everyone does it. So me and everyone else that doesn't want to play escort are screwed more so than ever. Forever relegated to mediocre gear and paying large sums of energy to our escort overlords for table scraps.

Why such a fundamental flaw made it to launch is mind boggling. I can only assume they figured everyone would join a fleet and that the escorts would be charitable enough to give **** away. Moronic. There's far too many players in need of gear for that to ever work. Not everyone is sociable either.

Then play an Escort, gah.

Maybe you're having bad luck? I was in a fleet mission and was getting things a rank above me. Four items from one fleet action. Random generator says next time I get batteries. :)

Fleet actions have a total damage list, not a DPS list. They are not one in the same. Once you understand this perhaps you can figure out how to put up a bunch of damage in a fleet action.

The rewards you can buy for exploration missions include plenty of blues as well. Pretty good stuff and not relegated to random chance.

From the turrets, I'm assuming you are talking about the Klingon Scout Force. In Open Beta, while we were capped at 16, I won 6 of my last 7, and 8 of my last 15, never finishing below 3rd in those 15, with my cruiser. No turret mining involved. With weapon drops majorly favoring escorts (cannons, cannons, more cannons). And me still improving as well. Which isn't to say escorts don't have an advantage, but it is not as big as people think it is in that level range. Most people just don't know how to play for max dps and, since that includes most escorts, you can win as a non-escort.

And those two things said...

Yeah, the system needs work. Since it favors dps at the moment, it naturally favors a dps class and encourages everyone to play for DPS. A big part of my success with my cruiser, for example, stemmed from controlling how much aggro I got and not being the first in.

But no matter what, even if you tweak the rules, someone will have an advantage. Give points for damage taken and I'd have won 14 out of the last 15. That 15th being a science ship using Sensor Scramble, twas a game I had almost 3200 points in and still lost by 2k :) But, anyway, escorts wouldn't have had a chance.

Hopefully, at some point, they'll go with a system closer to what Warhammer Online had, where the points you get are used to weight a random roll. Give the top 10 or so scorers a chance at the loot and it'll help smooth over any issues with whatever the scoring system is.

I would sure hope not. Building for DPS in an escort would be a great way to actually end up doing less damage. Escorts are not ment for DPS.

realy? wow you might want to tell the devs that.

From the ship over view section of the official site

Escort Ships

These heavily-armed warships are built with the firepower to defend the Federation. Escort vessels are armed to the teeth, fast and maneuverable, which makes them a hard target to hit when they’re moving evasively.

They are ill equipped to deal with advanced science or engineering tasks. Their lack of adequate medical facilities will hinder their ability to maintain their crew's health. Fortunately, they are so well armed and armored that their crew's health is seldom threatened.

Primary Role: Heavy damage ship, boasting incredible firepower for its size.
Special: Bonus to damage, speed and maneuverability; can load cannons; bonus to weapon power; extra forward weapon slot.

perhaps you should research before posting.

I always pick weapons for damage not DPS, if the fleet action list isn't DPS but damage based then what is the DPS number for weapons even for? Seems like it's just some unnecessary thing included for the sake of wow players.
