computer question

Hi,
I'm not a computer person. I have a computer I got a few years ago for playing star wars galaxies. looking at the system requirements I'm not sure I can handle the game. I have a pentium 4 and a nvida geforce 5200 vid card. Do I need to buy a new rig?

You might be struggling with that system.. with most games nowadays! Definite +1 to you getting a new pc

i figgure it will struggle, but will it run? i'm looking at getting a new comp. in a few months.

I'm gonna have to go with no, it probably won't run. If it does, it'll be taxing the machine to its limits, which could lead to a failure. Even if the game fires up, I doubt you'll be able to get it to play satisfactory.

Just from the basics you laid out, that system will choke on STO. The 5200 card doesn't have the muscle needed. If that card is an AGP card and you want to just get by for a while, picking up an nVidia 7XXX AGP card should work fine, though a new system should be in your plans.

I'm running a P4 2.8GHz with a 7600 GS 512 MB card and do reasonably well. It isn't attractive, but I've had no problems.

in the system reqs, dont they require a low end dual core cpu even for minimum??

Basic rule of thumb when it comes to computer games: if you have to ask this question, then it's past time for an upgrade.

If your board supports PCI-E, just get another video card (Since you will have to buy one for a new rig anyhow and see how it runs.

If it runs, great, if not, just build a rig around your brand new card.

yeah, it looks like my computer will not run the game. Any ideas where I can get something good under a grand? I'm looking at dell and not thrilled. Are there any other places I can get a full comp?

Yep...and that was a concern I had. But my old dog of a system (a single core P4) runs STO reasonably well.
