Let Them Eat Static!
I love STO, so let me get that out there.

What is really annoying me is the total lack of communication. "LET THEM EAT STATIC" can only go on so long before folks just start to give up and go on with their lives in other ways.

Telling us "server's broke, be back asap" doesn't cut it. Works in closed beta, barely acceptable in open beta, but in production/release, it is categorically unacceptable. We demand time frames, basic reasons for the crash and what you're doing to prevent this issue from affecting our experience in the future. In short, TALK TO US. Post on the forums, update the launcher, keep us Informed.

We are no longer "users" we are customers.

When I used a bad word on the forums defending STO I was issued a warning by a GM, so I KNOW you people are out there, lurking. If you can find the time to punish me for making a swear, then you can dang well tell us what the heck is going on with the server and what you are going to do to make right on the "head start" portion of our transaction, which to my thinking is a rather big disappointment.

It also seems that they have trouble with the green/red status lights on the forums and in the game.

I don't really care that the servers are up and down so much---this is exactly how game launches seem to go most of the time, in my experience. you say..communication is key. A simple "they went down...we estimate two hours, but it could be longer' would go a long way. And if it comes up early? Great.

Agreed yes and no....
Hi there,

I as well as think it would be decent to give cues or a simplified "why" a server goes down. However, giving a sever back online time lap is somewhat not possible unless they keep a dude updating message comments which is not viable as it would frustrate clients such as servedown eta 2 mn>oops sorry dropped coffee on keyboard 5 more mn>oops I am corky today I let the dog out brb...10 mn

At least tell us why they're down. Be general or something, but give us some kinda hint. I know this is basically "normal" for a game's launch, but it's becoming bothersome.

And yes, it technically did launch already, so if it's crashing due to server load I'd like to know that in advance so that when the game goes live and thousands more players join the game we'll know what to expect. If some one keeps tripping over a wire and unplugging it, cut their legs off.

If you guys are patching something well all I have to say is while I salute you guys for fixing a major game imbalance or broken mission or something, really, SWG and WoW have missions and imbalances that aren't fixed for weeks (some times ever). Now while I don't condone leaving your mess unattended, I also don't condone stopping everything and just to patch 10 bugs.

Come up with a regularly scheduled day of the week and do the bulk of patching there and give up a heads up on emergency patches at least 1 hour in advance.

I just wanted to say I love the name of the thread.

I'm not sure Cryptic is that evil, but it's funny to think of them getting kicks like Khan.

Yeah epic reference from an epic movie.

restarting a computer doesn't fix the problem most of the time

they have to find out what the issue is and fix it

use #stobugs on twiiter and get all the bugs and outages public. *****ing on the forum only lets you let off steam. put it out in the universe for all to read.

Sorry but putting thedev messages on a 3rd party service? So maybe I should take out a portion of my purchase price and make a donation to twitter?

And to top it off a fellow customer knew this, maybe if THEY had told us we'd know to go there? Maybe the QA department has a blog somewhere I can read to find out when the next patch is scheduled for.

I'd like "the shard is coming down in 5 minutes" message like we got in OB. The "unexpected" shutdowns happen on the hour ... c'mon Cryptic ...
